INSTRUCTION ON CONNECTINGthe Austin shock tubes together with a plastic connecting tubeNon-ElectricI. SCOPE OF USEAustin Shock Tube with a connecting plastic tube can be used in the following way:as a startline to Initiation network created by non-electric detonators INDETSHOCK/SHOCKSTARfor interconnecting of remote individual initiation networks or charges initiated by INDETSHOCK/SHOCSTAR in one roundin surface applicationsin non-coal and non-gassy underground minesfor underground work, construction, the underground service tunnels, wells, shafts, underground tanks, caves etc.in applications with a risk of foreign sources of electricity (stray currents, radio frequency, power lines etc.)in applications with a risk of electrostatic discharge and atmospheric discharge, such as at high elevations or duringpneumatic charging of explosives into a holeShock Tube with a connecting tube must not be used as follows:in environments where flammable gasses, fumes or dust is presentin materials and conditions with high temperaturesfor splicing the tubes in holesfor systematic prolonging the tubes in the initiation networkII. CONNECTINGConnect the connecting tube to the 1 st detonatoror charge in the round in the direction of advanceof the initiation in the following way:1. Cut off minimum 3 cm of connecting plastic tube.2. Using a knife and a firm pad, remove the sealing weldin the Austin tube from the Startline or ShockstarSurface connector by cutting it off.3. Press the Austin tube into the connecting plastic tubeby at least 1,5 cm.4. Prepare the other tube which you wish to connect inthe same fashion as the first tube. Insert the tubeinside the connecting sleeve such as the shocktubes inside the connecting plastic tube touch eachother.5. Wrap the whole assembly in a tape.6. Secure the assembly against mechanical stress anddisconnecting (pulling strength) by fixing it to firmobjects on both sides (e.g. stones)T R A D I T I O N O F S A F E T Y , S T R E N G T H A N D S E R V I C E

WATER RESISTANCEThe initiation and reliable transfer of detonation between connected tubes is determined by dry condition inside theshock tube. Humidity may stop detonation. Make sure that no humidity gets inside the tubes when preparing the assembly. The assembly is not water resistant and must not be put in water.IV. TEMPERATURE RANGE OF USEAustin Shock Tube with a connecting plastic tube may be used in temperatures ranging from -30 o C to +30 o C.Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitations of LiabilitiesProduct described in this bulletin are sold by Austin Detonator s.r.o. without warranty; express implied or statutory or as to MERCHANTABILITY, except as expressly stated in Austin Detonatorstraight bill of lading.
