just 3 days to go I had 11 landmarks yet to do. It time desperate planning. It was going to witha case <strong>of</strong> doing Hertfordshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire in one trip, the behad gone back to GMT, daylight would be in short supply. clockswas one landmark that I would need to walk to I knew there was no bike access that was Pooh <strong>The</strong>rebridge, so as long as I got there before dark I would be home and dry. (<strong>The</strong> last landmarks would be easy to sticksand as long as the flash on the findon the digital camera was mist! After many attempts, the only way to capture it was to turn <strong>of</strong>f the flash seeuse a long exposure. Phew. <strong>The</strong> rest <strong>of</strong> the daylight riding was fine apart from the fog and in andnon manned barrier on the QE2 M25 toll bridge and then getting a thecross words from an attendant who had to come and open it for me. But I got to the car park near Pooh fewBridge as it got dark. A quick photo <strong>of</strong> the bike car park, I set <strong>of</strong>f on foot following the first and only Sticksto the bridge down through some trees. I came out on a signbut I was still going down hill, basic geography told me that there should be a road,at bottom and with luck a bridge. Wrong. By now was pitch black, no moon, no streamand cursing. I retraced my torchdown a track and eventually found that bridge. I couldn’t find a stick to throw; mind you, I couldn’t backthe water. <strong>The</strong> second part to this landmark was the Milne/Shepard memorial on the ridge above the seeBack on the bike, up the road to the next car park, spotted a bridge.that looked like the one I was looking for in the headlights, but alas it wasn’t. <strong>The</strong>re was nothing for memorialbut to try <strong>of</strong>f roading on a touring bike along the ridge a desperate bid to locate the memorial with the itI didn’t know that pine needles were so slippery!
