<strong>Beattie</strong> <strong>Park</strong> <strong>Disc</strong> <strong>Golf</strong><strong>Course</strong> <strong>Proposal</strong>


Brief <strong>Disc</strong> <strong>Golf</strong> Overview<strong>Disc</strong> golf is a low impact outdoor sport similar to ball golf, but instead <strong>of</strong> usingclubs to hit balls, discs (similar to Frisbees®) are selected for <strong>the</strong>ir flight pr<strong>of</strong>ilesand thrown towards catching devices, known as baskets. The goal is to makeit through <strong>the</strong> course in <strong>the</strong> fewest number <strong>of</strong> throws possible. This simple setup allows persons <strong>of</strong> all ages and abilities to enjoy disc golf. Elementary schoolage children can play disc golf right along with, “legends,” or 70+ year old playerswith as little as a seven dollar disc and an enthusiasm for <strong>the</strong> sport.<strong>Disc</strong> <strong>Golf</strong>’s Near Future<strong>Disc</strong> golf is currently where ball golf was about 50 to 60 years ago. It’s in <strong>the</strong>grass root stage with a tremendous amount <strong>of</strong> growth happening. Technology indisc golf discs keeps increasing and <strong>the</strong> sport keeps growing. The most recentdisc golf tournament was <strong>the</strong> Vibram Open at Maple Hill in Massachusetts.Over 2,000 people came <strong>the</strong> watch <strong>the</strong> tournament, including over 800 to watch<strong>the</strong> leader card finish at hole 18.


Use <strong>of</strong> LandThe course layout wasdesigned with playerand spectator safetyfirst in mind and withcourse challengesecond. This allowsdisc golfers to share<strong>the</strong> park with o<strong>the</strong>rpark users while stillkeeping <strong>the</strong> coursechallenging.This front nine layoutleaves <strong>the</strong> potential fora back nine to be put inup on <strong>the</strong> hill half <strong>of</strong><strong>Beattie</strong> <strong>Park</strong>, giving<strong>Beattie</strong> <strong>Park</strong> 18 holesfor competition play.


Tee PadsTee pad construction will consist <strong>of</strong> a frameapproximately four foot by nine foot constructed<strong>of</strong> 4x4 pressure treated wood, an underlayment<strong>of</strong> tamped sand and a top layer <strong>of</strong> 36 square feet<strong>of</strong> concrete paving stones. Framedconcrete paving stones will make tee padconstruction easy, look nice in our park and hasa low cost to install with minimum maintenancerequirements.Tee signs will be incorporated into <strong>the</strong> tee padfor each hole.By incorporating <strong>the</strong> tee sign with <strong>the</strong> tee pad,costs will be reduced along with <strong>the</strong> problem <strong>of</strong>graffiti.


BasketsThe baskets that will be installed are basic<strong>Disc</strong>raft Chainstar <strong>Disc</strong> <strong>Golf</strong> Baskets. Basicmeans it can be mounted in <strong>the</strong> ground onceand not moved to a new location which willgreatly hinder <strong>the</strong>ft <strong>of</strong> baskets. Basic Chainstarbaskets are made <strong>of</strong> hot-dipped galvanizedsteel and do not have a large band on top, whichmany o<strong>the</strong>r baskets do, to rust or attract graffitiand are designed for optimal disc catching. Tomount each basket will require 80 pounds <strong>of</strong>concrete.
