Neatness is very important. Exhibit clean pages with clear handwriting.Your handwriting is part of your heritage. Please use it often! Computercreated writing is allowed but will not improve your score.2. Please spell words correctly and use a dictionary if necessary.3. Keep in mind the proper placement of photos, etc. in your album. Yourscrapbook is telling a story. Use chronology (putting things in order ofoccurrence) or seasonal activities to organize your scrapbook.4. Journaling is to be used along with your photos and memorabilia. Withoutjournaling, over time, your photos and memorabilia will become lessmeaningful to you and others.5. Using a variety of cropping techniques and page layouts will add interestand creativity to your album. Not everything has to be cropped or ‘artsy’.Use a nice balance, keeping in mind that the main focus is preservationand not how many stickers or fancy papers you can use on a page!6. The scrapbook album must demonstrate a good sense of the entireproject and what it means to preserve our memories.

Scrapbooking Terms to KnowAcid Free indicates that the chemistry is acid balanced so that pages orsupplies will not cause damage to your photos. Ph 8.0 is recommended.Buffered means that the photos are protected against pollutants from theoutside (the environment, acidic brochures, greeting cards, etc.) becausethe paper or pages have an alkaline reserve that neutralizes the acid fromthe memorabilia.Crop is to trim pictures in order to put the focus on the subject of thepicture. This can be done in rectangular or irregular shapes such as stars, hearts, ovals, etc. This allows you to get more pictures on the page, cut outbackground clutter, etc. However, never crop Polaroid pictures or anythingwith historical value.Lignin Free means that the pages, papers, and supplies will not yellow.Page protectors should be polypropylene (photo safe plastic) to protectalbum pages and photographs from dust, spills, abrasions, finger prints, etc.Templates are a fast, fun, and easy way to trace or cut photos and photomounting paper into decorative shapes or trace the shapes onto your pages. When tracing on a photo, make sure you use a photo safe pencil so it willnot damage your photos and so that the lead can easily be wiped off thephoto.2-page spread are 2 opposing pages with the same theme.
