However, apartfrom the Johannesburg-Cape Town, Johannesburg-Durban and the Cape Town-Durban routes (‘the golden triangle’), airtravel within South Africa is expensive, and flights are not always scheduled at convenient times. Also, the cost <strong>of</strong> flightsoutside the three main routes is <strong>of</strong>ten very high as a result <strong>of</strong> demand-and-supply issues. This limits the improvement<strong>of</strong> the geographical spread <strong>of</strong> visitors to lesser visited provinces, and hampers leisure and business tourism to manydestinations.Actions to address the issueActionContribute to the action plan for the development and expansion <strong>of</strong>domestic airlift in South Africa. The strategy should include issues<strong>of</strong> routes, frequencies, pricing, airports, volume levels, marketing,government support, etc.Sub-actionsEstablish a task team to investigate domestic airlift within SouthAfricaContribute to the implementation <strong>of</strong> the action plan to grow domesticair travel46
