MaldivesICT USE IN EDUCATIONMs Usha Vyasulu Reddi, Ph.DMs Vineeta SinhaINTRODUCTIONSouthwest of the Indian subcontinent, the Republic of Maldives isone of the most attenuated countries in the world, with 1,196 islandsin 26 distinct coral atolls spread over a total area of 90,000 squarekilometres. Less than 0.5 per cent of this area is land, and some 200of the islands are inhabited.Until the arrival of tourism, fishing was the main occupation in thisnation of seafarers, and the relaxed pace of life seems to have carriedover into the 21st century. The graceful sailing dhoni (local boats)of old may have given way to motorised versions, but fishing withpole and line is still a common site throughout the islands.
