<strong>HERNIS</strong> project team reinforcedIn January 2007 Harald Owe Lauvland joined<strong>HERNIS</strong> taking on the responsibilities as ProjectManager. With his more than 20 years experiencewithin ship automation in Bjørge Steinco Moland,Harald Owe is a great asset to <strong>HERNIS</strong> and theproject department in particular, w<strong>here</strong> he hasalready made his mark by reinforcing his projectteam.“The project department is dealing with everincreasing demands, and we are very pleased to havewelcomed three Project Engineers, two CADOperators and last but not least one DocumentController to <strong>HERNIS</strong> this past year. We are stillvery busy, but we have managed to cultivate anexcellent team spirit, which is important in a hecticday-to-day operation. Based on the expertise andexperience inhouse and my own experience fromprevious employment we will work intensively tostrengthen and improve the project executionwithin <strong>HERNIS</strong>. <strong>HERNIS</strong> CCTV system on the “SHIP OF THE YEAR”<strong>HERNIS</strong> <strong>Scan</strong> <strong>Systems</strong> has delivered a complete <strong>HERNIS</strong> 400 CCTV Systemfor hull no. 277, the Normand Seven from Ulstein Shipyard, which has beenvoted “Ship of the Year 2007”.The award was presented on June 12th 2007,by Norway’s Minister of Trade and Industry Dag Terje Andersen at the Nor-Shipping trade show in Lillestrøm.


For the second year in a row, the Ulstein Group hasreceived the award “Ship of the Year”. Readers ofmaritime magazine Skipsrevyen nominatecandidates and a jury of three picks the winner.VS 4220 OCV. “It is a large, state-of-the-art vessel,and the first purely offshore construction vesseldelivered by a Norwegian yard”, says jury memberAsle Strønen, who is also editor of the magazine.The jury points out that the ship has raised theNorwegian yard industry into a new, futureorientedniche. The ship is of Vik-Sandvik’s designThe Normand Seven is the sixteenth ship UlsteinVerft has built for Solstad. The vessel will bedelivered to Solstad in July 2008, and has beenprepared for an additional laying deck to be added.After comprehensive rebuilding in Newcastle, theship will be ready for pipelaying operations andSubsea 7 has chartered the ship with SolstadOffshore for eight years.The ship will also be equipped with ten 9.2-diameter reels, a 300-ton A-frame and a host ofother pipelaying equipment. In Brazil, the ship willlay flexible production pipes at a depth of 2,000metres on assignment for Petrobras for the first twoyears.<strong>HERNIS</strong> has entered contracts with both UlsteinShipyard for delivery of a tailor made CCTV systemfor the marine part, and Subsea 7 for a customisedsystem for their operation. Commissioning of the<strong>HERNIS</strong> 400 System for Ulstein is taking placethese days at the shipyard. This system aloneconsists of 23 camera stations, including S7, S9,PT9W and RDC400WP as well as 6keyboards/monitors. <strong>HERNIS</strong> Service Engineerexpresses great admiration for this ship, which is thelargest offshore vessel ever built by Ulstein.At 130 meters long and 28 meters wide, the Normand Seven is thelargest ship ever built by Ulstein Verft. The bridge alone is 400square meters.5


<strong>HERNIS</strong> CCTV for new Trinity Houseand Northern Lighthouse Board vesselsFollowing the successful installation of <strong>HERNIS</strong> <strong>Scan</strong> <strong>Systems</strong> integratedsurveillance systems on Trinity House vessels Patricia and Mermaid, Hernishas supplied its <strong>HERNIS</strong> 400 system for the new Northern LighthouseBoard and Trinity House vessels built at the Remontowa shipyard in Poland.Northern Lighhouse Boards’vessel “Pharos” on 09 May atOcean Terminal when berthed inLeith for the inaugurationceremony by the Princess Royal.The ship is decorated with thedress flags and also has thehelicopter on board. Furtherback the 30 tonne crane.Barry Rising of Silver Fox & Associates Ltd, the UKagents for <strong>HERNIS</strong>, commented that it was great tobe allowed to build on the good relationshipdeveloped from the Patricia and Mermaid. Weworked on the principal of supplying similar controlsystems and camera stations as those fitted to theearlier vessels, so that all concerned would befamiliar with what they have on board. This keepsthe learning curve to a minimum, which is always apractical thing to do and we like that. <strong>HERNIS</strong> hasbuilt up quite some reputation for supplyingpractical, reliable equipment that keeps workingunder extreme conditions. The reputation wasstarted in the challenging conditions of the NorthSea and to this day drilling companies rely onHernis to keep them on station and earning money.These are the qualities built into the systemssupplied to the new RIV and Multi Functionvessels.The <strong>HERNIS</strong> 400 control system is well provenand is used on a wide range of marine and landbased applications operating at both ends of thetemperature scale and in extremely difficultconditions. <strong>HERNIS</strong> awarded CCTV System contracts forsix 110,000 dwt Aframax crude oil tankers<strong>HERNIS</strong> is pleased to be awardedthe CCTV delivery for this newconstruction program of NavigationMontanari as they are doubling theirtransport capacity for the petroleumand petrochemical products by theend of 2009.The <strong>HERNIS</strong> CCTVdelivery consists of a <strong>HERNIS</strong> 400Midi Compact System and camerastations RDC400WP and PT9.TheCCTV system will be part ofcutting-edge safety andenvironmental protection system,contributing to the safety of thevessels, which also have double hullsfor added protection.The six vessels will be delivered gradually over theperiod from October 2008 to December 2009 andare currently under construction in the Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Co. Roast Turkey with Salvia stuffing2 loaves white breadcut in cubes500ml KelloggsCornflakes250ml butter500ml celery, diced2 onions, diced1 leek, chopped2 tsp salt1/2 tsp pepper3 eggs, slightly beaten1tbs crushed salvia1 tsp thyme1/4 tsp marjoram1/4 tsp rosemary1/8 tsp nutmegWe have received this recipe from Roy Thorkeldsen,Technical Director at <strong>HERNIS</strong>. He lived in USA from1983 - 1993, and together with his American wifeMary and their 2 daughters, they celebrate the thanksgiving holidays with the traditional roast turkey. He hasadded his own twist to the original stuffing, and duringthe years the recipe has been adjusted and developedin his kitchen into the following delicious roast turkeywith salvia stuffing.Salvia Stuffing:Moisten bread cubes with boiling water. AddCornflakes and mix well. Melt butter in a pan andcook the onions, leek and celery until tender andadd to the bread mix. Add eggs and the remainingspices and mix well. Add water and butter until thestuffing mixture has the consistency of dough.

Stuff the turkeycompletely with the salvia stuffing, anyremaining stuffing can be packed in aluminiumfoil and put in the oven the last 30 to 45minutes of the roasting time.Baste the turkey with olive oil and pepper. Bakethe turkey at 165˚C (325˚F) for 3 1/2 to 4 hrsfor a 3,5 to 5 kg turkey. 4 to 4 1/2 hrs for a 5 to7 kg turkey and 4 1/2 to 5 hrs for a 7 to 9 kgturkey. Cover the turkey with aluminium foiltowards the end of its cooking time if it becomesoverly brown.As part of <strong>HERNIS</strong>’ 25th anniversary the stafffrom the regional Office in Singapore went ona three day cruise onboard Super Star Virgo onSeptember 21st to 23rd. The staff in Singaporehad invited their partners and all in all 15people enjoyed the luxurious living onboardthe cruise ship. <strong>HERNIS</strong> brought the Norwegian Grand Prixrace to the crowdsFollowing last years’ great success, <strong>HERNIS</strong> againproudly took on the task of recording theNorwegian Grand Prix, round 2 of the WPPA Class1 World Powerboat Championship in Arendal thissummer. As many as six <strong>HERNIS</strong> Camera Stationswere placed in strategic areas along the track, andimages of the entire race were displayed live on a50m 2 monitor placed in the centre of Arendal city.6 camera locations were selected to cover the race.The video was transmitted live via a wireless broadband IP network in to the editing booth in town.Edited video was then distributed to the large screenand all VIP locations. <strong>HERNIS</strong> 400 onboard the FPSO Nexus IHernis has been awarded thecontract for CCTV system onboardNexus’ new FPSO the Nexus I,delivery scheduled for 2008/9.TheFPSO, which is currently underconstruction in Samsung, SouthKorea, is specifically designed andconstructed for operation inNorwegian waters, making <strong>HERNIS</strong>CCTV the reliable choice.The system, a <strong>HERNIS</strong> 400 System, will include awide range of camera stations.For the hazardous areas <strong>HERNIS</strong> EX 286 Wpan/tilt cameras are installed to monitor the Offloading area, Helicopter deck, Turret area and alsoTop side. The pump room is equipped with an Ex291 fixed camera w<strong>here</strong>as an EX 291 Sub Seacamera station is installed in the Turret area. The<strong>HERNIS</strong> Ex 291 Sub Sea camera can be submergeddown to 30 meters of depth, making it the safechoice for this area. For safe areas, the PT 9W islocated in the Engine room. The cameras are allsuited for the particularly corrosive environmentonboard marine vessels.In total 15 cameras will add to the safety andefficiency onboard the vessel, which is designed fora wide range of production scenarios. The vessel isscheduled to be delivered in June 2009.so operators can control and view all the cameras viathe ship’s integrated control system.
