TH11 and TH21Self-hold Thermal Cut-OutsKEY BENEFITSFlexible mounting:3 terminal configurations availableRobust design:The bimetal disc is protected by themetal supportFull automated live:Provides stable setting valuesLow price:The particular design provides highcompetitivitySensata Technologies has developedthe electrical self-hold temperaturecut-out in order to offer a nonselfresetting device, suitable forhigh current applications, thus fulfillingthe growing need for highersafety.Design and operating principlesThe TH11 and TH21 consists of twonickel-plated supports, held togetherwith ceramic pins. One supportholds the high-performance Klixon®bimetal disc, which, in combinationwith the sophisticated contact system, guarantees the superior cyclingperformance. One ceramic pin has alayer of resistive material, functioningas a small heater when a voltageis supplied. A wide temperaturerange, standard 5K tolerance, differentbimetal resistivity and variousoptional terminal configurationsmake the TH11 and TH21 suitablefor a wide range of applications.Whereas the TH11 operates at230 Vac. The TH21 is designed for120 Vac applications. Because oftheir identical dimensions, the TH11and TH21 can be easily exchangedwith the auto reset thermal protectorTH10.The operating principle of the THseriesis both simple and effective. Acurrent flows through the resistiveKlixon® bimetal disc. When a faultcondition occurs, the increasedambient temperature causes thebimetal disc to snap open the contacts. The resistive layer spots thevoltage over the open contacts anda current flows through the resistor, generating sufficient heat to keepthe bimetal warm and the contactsopen. When the power is switchedoff, the device cools down to a safetemperature and the contacts willclose.ApplicationsThe TH11 and TH21 are temperatureresistive cut-outs for such applicationsas:· Fan heaters· Convector heaters· Hair dryersand various other applications whichrequire a non-self resetting protectorlike transformers, cable reels etc.
