new facultyDONALD CAMERON taughtma<strong>the</strong>matics at Berkshire <strong>School</strong> inMassachusetts and more recently at SevenHills <strong>School</strong> in Cincinnati, where he wasdepartment chairman. While at Seven Hillshe served on numerous committeesincluding <strong>the</strong> Faculty Personnel Committee,<strong>the</strong> Principal Search Committee and wasappointed chairman of <strong>the</strong> FacultyAdvisory Committee to <strong>the</strong> Headmaster. Hewas also <strong>the</strong> initiator and advisor to a DrugEducation Program. In his first year atSeven Hills, Don was awarded <strong>the</strong> <strong>St</strong>udentCouncil's Outstanding Teacher of <strong>the</strong> YearAward.Don's boarding school experience came<strong>from</strong> his four years at Berkshire <strong>School</strong>where he ran a dormitory, taught math andcoached track.A major in ma<strong>the</strong>matics and philosophy,Don graduated <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> Honors Programat Lake Forest College and received hismaster's <strong>from</strong> Wesleyan University, wherehe maintained a 4.0 average in ma<strong>the</strong>matics.His personal interest in biking has ledhim to organize student trips to Puerto Ricoand Florida where he and a small group ofstudents have biked up to 500 miles alonghighways and back roads. Don is also aserious distance runner, participating inraces of up to ten kilometers.Don is a corridor master for III Formboys, teaches math and coaches boys' crosscountryand squash.CHESTER HALKA came to <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Andrew's</strong><strong>from</strong> Holy Cross College where he servedfor six years as Assistant Professor ofSpanish, teaching language, literature andculture. He also taught at Brown Universitywhere he received his PhD, and atDartmouth College where he received hisMA. His overseas experience includesstudies in Salamanca, Spain and service as aPeace Corps volunteer in Venezuela.Chet published a book on <strong>the</strong> novel OneHundred Years ofSolitude by <strong>the</strong>Colombian author Gabriel GarciaMarquez and co-authored translations of<strong>the</strong> poetry of Vicente Aleixandre, <strong>the</strong>Spanish Nobel-laureate. O<strong>the</strong>r professionalachievements include an article publishedon Don Quijote and papers delivered atconferences devoted to Hispanic literature.A Phi Beta Kappa and cum laude scholarat Dartmouth, Chet was <strong>the</strong> recipient of <strong>the</strong>General Motors Scholarship Award, named<strong>the</strong> Rufus Choate Scholar and <strong>the</strong> collegehigh jump record setter. At Brown, Chetreceived <strong>the</strong> Herbert A. Kenyon FellowshipAward for three years. He also assisted hisChet HalkaDebbie Huntingtondepartment and undergraduates in helpingto sponsor Hispanic and Italian activities tofoster cultural appreciation.At <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Andrew's</strong>, Chet teaches all levels ofSpanish and coaches soccer and basketball.He and his wife, Debbie Huntington, livein <strong>the</strong> Annex.DEBORAH HUNTINGTON was born inBrazil and spent her first fourteen years<strong>the</strong>re before moving to France where shelived for a year. After taking up permanentresidency in <strong>the</strong> United <strong>St</strong>ates in Brewster,New York, where she finished high school,Debbie attended Randolph-MaconWomen's College, graduating Phi BetaKappa and magna cum laude with honorsin Spanish. Three of her eight collegesemesters were spent abroad in Madrid.After graduation, Debbie enrolled inBrown University to pursue graduatestudies in Hispanic literature and to teachPortuguese. She is presently workingtoward <strong>the</strong> completion of her doctoral<strong>the</strong>sis.As a translator, tutor and teacher, Debbiehas involved herself in numerouscommunity projects. She taught in aHuman Services program, acted as abilingual coordinator and field supervisor atRhode Island Junior College and taughtand tutored Spanish and Portuguese in highPhil JacohsDon CameronMarijke Van Buchemschools, adult education centers and privatehomes. Her translation experiences range<strong>from</strong> business reports to Head <strong>St</strong>artprograms.Fluent in Portuguese, Spanish andFrench with a reading knowledge of Italian,Debbie teaches first, second and third yearSpanish.PHILIP JACOBS, a 1982 Princetongraduate, comes to <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Andrew's</strong> as ateaching intern.
