R RE EP PO OR RT TE ERRNewsletter for Brecksville-Broadview Hts. School CommunityMessage fromSuperintendent DiringerAs you read these words, we are rapidly approaching the one-thirdmark of the 2007-08 school year. This is truly remarkable. For me,each year seems to move by more quickly.Let me take just a moment to touch on a few key items that areimpacting on our school district. A sincere thank you to all of youwho were able to support our recent school operating levy. Thisrenewal allows us to continue to offer the programs that meet theneeds of children to the current level. During these somewhat difficulteconomic times, your support is all the more appreciated. This school year, as we work to follow the mandates of our StrategicPlan and to support the historically high level of performance withinour district, we are offering significant in-service activities to ourdistrict’s staff members. We believe that professional development istruly in the best interest of our district’s youngsters.I encourage you to take a look at our district’s website and/or BeeTVto review our State of the Schools presentation that was completedon October 17, 2007. In this presentation, we talked about a varietyof issues, both historical and those currently impacting on our schooldistrict. Mention is made of financial issues, certainly, but also concernsrevolving around enrollment, staffing, curriculum, and facilities.I would like to mention how proud I am of the successes our youngstershave demonstrated throughout the school year thus far. This iscertainly true of athletics (our state championship girls’ cross-countryteam is a good example) but also in music and theatre art presentationsin a variety of settings. Our youngsters just do an outstandingjob representing not only themselves and their school, but our communitiesas well.Lastly, let me wish you and your entire family a terrific holidayseason. Certainly, we all have much to be thankful for at this time ofyear. As we look ahead to 2008, many good things are on the horizonfor our school district.Remember to support the Bees in whatever setting possible! I lookforward to seeing you at some school event within the district verysoon.Tom Diringer, Ed.D.SuperintendentNovember/DecemberRenewal LevyApproved by VotersThe Brecksville-BroadviewHeights School District’s five year,7.4 mill renewal levy that was onthe ballot on November 6 wasoverwhelmingly approved by voters. Not only did seventy percentof those who voted cast their ballotsfor the renewal levy, but itwas also approved in each andevery precinct/ward in Brecksvilleand Broadview Heights. “The supportof this community,” saidSuperintendent Dr. Tom Diringer,“for the students of this school districtand our educational program isquite impressive and deeply appreciated.”A renewal levy does not increasetaxes for residents, nor does itincrease revenue for the schooldistrict. However, it does allow thedistrict to continue to offer currentprograms and services to allstudents. By renewing this levy, which represents 13% of the currentoperating budget, at thistime the district is better able toplan for the future.Additionally, voters electedto keep incumbent Board ofEducation members George J.Balasko, Terri Neff and AlanScheufler on the Board foranother four year term.
