COAC HES, ROS R OSTERSPAUL WAIDAHEAD COACHNazareth alum Paul Waida became headcoach of the Golden Flyers’ men’s andwomen’s tennis teams last January,following the retirement of long-timecoach Annette Shapiro. He guided themen’s team to an overall record of 8-6last spring and a third-place finish in theEmpire 8 Conference Tournament.A Rochester native, Waida is a 1992Nazareth graduate and played tennis forfour seasons. He was Shapiro’s assistantcoach for the last three seasons. Waidahas been head tennis coach at PittsfordSutherland High School since 1996 andis part owner of Tennis Heaven, a privatetennis and swimming club in Pittsford.Waida also has experience as a teachingprofessional at Monroe Golf Club, theUniversity of Rochester, the Harley Schooland Mendon Ponds Tennis and SwimClub.Waida has a degree in Studio Art andis a K-12 certified teacher.MARIE KERNSASSISTANT COACHMarie Kerns is back for her third seasonas a part-time assistant tennis coach.Her experience includes part ownershipof Tennis Heaven in Pittsford.Her responsibilities included budgetingand bookkeeping as well purchasing andpricing inventory.At Nazareth, Kerns also is involved withgym scheduling.BEN KLEMPKAASSISTANT COACHThe all-time winningest player inNazareth’s men’s tennis history, BenKlempka is back for his first season asa part-time assistant coach.A native of Cortland, Klempka graduatedin 2005 with a degrees in businessadministration and psychology.As a tennis player, Klempka shatteredNazareth’s all-time wins record, playingmostly first singles and first doubles.
