It is grouped underthe broad heading of the hard fibers. The fiber is extracted from the stemeither by retting, by scrapping, or byretting followed by scraping or bymechanical means using decorticators. The diameter of fiber varies from 1µm to1.5µm.The strength and percentage elongationdecreases with test length whereasmodulus (You ng’s Modulus) increaseswith length. In natural fibers flaws orweak links are irregularly spaced in thefiber, the strength will depend on thelength of fiber used for tensile test.
