U.S. <strong>NAVY</strong> READY <strong>RESERVE</strong>The Ready Reserve has two components.Selected Reserves (SELRES):Individual Ready Reserve(IRR):Units and individuals designated bythe CJCS as essential to initial wartimemissions.Personnel providing a manpower poolof previously trained individual,usually with prior AC experience.Drill one weekend a month, twoweeks a year in a pay status.Merchant Marine Individual ReadyReserve Group (MMIRRIRRG) areauthorized to drill utilizing Active Dutyfor Training (ADT) funds similar toVoluntary Training Units (VTU).


MERCHANT MARINE <strong>RESERVE</strong> PROGRAMTo maintain in the U.S. Navy Reserve anorganization of Merchant Marineofficers, composed of a corps of activelysailing members who are trained tooperate merchant ships as Navalauxiliaries, and a shoreside cadreassigned to Naval activities that supportstrategic sealift readiness.~OPNAVINST1534.1CMembership:•90% USMMA Graduates•10% Other <strong>Maritime</strong> Schools•Approximately 2500 MMIRRG


MMIRRG REQUIREMENTS1. Sailing Licenses: Current unlimited sailing license is mandatory in maintaining satisfactoryparticipation in the MMIRRG program. Licenses for “Continuity Purpose Only” do not meet therequirements of this program.2. Active Duty for Training (ADT): At least one Active Duty for Training (ADT) period for aminimum of 12 days each Anniversary Year is required.3. PHA form to be completed annually by members of the Naval service e (including Reserves). NewENS must request a copy of their Navy Commissioning Physical.4. Annual Reports: An Annual Report is due between 1 January and 1 March each year. Whenthis report is submitted, you must specify that you are submitting the report to document youractivities during the previous Calendar Year (1 Jan - 31 Dec). For example: If you submit anAnnual Report on 15 January 2009, the should cover your activities ties for 1 Jan - 31 Dec 2008. A"downloadable" Annual Report form is available in the "Online forms" section of our Web Site.The MMR office will accept submission via: Email, Fax or Mail (postal).


MMIRRG REQUIREMENTS:Non-Active Duty AssignmentUPON GRADUATIONYOU WILL BE COMMISIONED AS AN ENSIGN IN THE <strong>NAVY</strong> <strong>RESERVE</strong>,MERCHANT MARINE INDIVIDUAL READY <strong>RESERVE</strong> GROUP.YOU WILL RECEIVE A MMIRRG PROGRAM WELCOME LETTER FROMTHE OFFICE OF NAVAL SCIENCE IN YOUR ENSIGN PACKAGEYOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO TAKE THE <strong>NAVY</strong> <strong>RESERVE</strong>, MERCHANTMARINE <strong>RESERVE</strong> COURSE GIVEN BY GMATS HOSTED AT NOSCSAN DIEGO.
