UMC News cont…Joe Massey RetiresUMC’s Senior Vice Chancellor forAcademic Affairs and Dean JoeMassey announced his retirement.He came to UMC in July 2004 asvice chancellor for academic affairsand was appointed chief executive<strong>of</strong>ficer in November 2004 where he Joe Masseyserved until the appointment <strong>of</strong> Chancellor CharlesH. Casey in September 2005. A search will begin fora new vice chancellor <strong>of</strong> academic affairs in Marchwith the anticipation <strong>of</strong> having a new vice chancellorin place by July 1, 2006.John and Deb Zak with Pam Holsinger-Fuchs, interim vicechancellor for student affairs and enrollment managementClock donated to <strong>Minnesota</strong> RoomDeborah and John Zak donated a mantel clock tothe <strong>Minnesota</strong> Room in the Student Center. Theclock will grace the old Bede ballroom mantel thatwas restored for the conference room. The<strong>Minnesota</strong> Room also features the lights from theold dining hall.Traci Richter, Dan Bjornson,Aaron Motl, Jessi FandrichStudents Raise Poinsettia CropChristmas began in September for a group <strong>of</strong> sixstudents at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Minnesota</strong>, <strong>Crookston</strong>(UMC). As members <strong>of</strong> UMC’s “CommercialFloriculture Crops, fall” class, Laura Culver, MapleGrove, MN; Aimee Grosam, Brownsdale, MN; JessiFandrich, Richardton, ND; Traci Richter, Bertha,MN; Aaron Motl, Staples, MN; and Dan Bjornson,Arvilla, ND, began working with the HorticultureDepartment’s annual poinsettia crop at the beginning<strong>of</strong> fall semester.Collegiate Crops Judging Team marksanother successful yearUMC’s Collegiate Crops Judging Team has a longhistory <strong>of</strong> success. This year’s team, while smaller, isno exception. Crop judging teams usually consist <strong>of</strong>three members, but this year, UMC had only two:Rob Proulx from<strong>Crookston</strong>, MN andTony Barteng fromRoseau, MN.It was the only teamin the competitionwith two members,but the results <strong>of</strong>these two individualswere not diminishedby their lack <strong>of</strong> athird team member. The team placed sixth overall inboth the National Collegiate Crops Contests inChicago and Kansas City.
