THE WATROUS MANITOU MONDAY, MARCH 1, 2010 • 9Arts and EntertainmentVideo Viewsby Earl Hayhurst2012 - One hundred and sixty minutes of John Cusackrunning from CG effects as the world ends because theMayan calendar runs out in 2012. Yawn. Not as horribleas I expected but pretty dull. Woody Harrelson (hot offZombieland and his Oscar nod for the excellent Messenger)saves the movie as a crazy scientist who knowsall. Silly, brain dead effects movie nothing else and let usface it the ooh aah factor is all used up for Avatar. (PG)Where the Wild Things Are - The famous children’sshort story gets the super movie treatment courtesy ofvisionary director Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich).Might be a little rough for young kids but it is so beautifullymade, movie hounds will appreciate it. Some call itone of the best movies ever made. Okay, not that greatbut definitely original. (PG)Ponyo - Latest from master animator Hayao Miyazaki(Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle) tells the storyof a young boy and his relationship with the goldfishprincess who longs to become a human. Think The LittleMermaid with a Japanese flavour. (G)Gentlemen Broncos - Latest from mildly insane directorJared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite). Not sure whatthis one is about but I love that title.
