Feel free to come by my office anytime and see if I’m there.Course DescriptionEDUC 1300 is a study of the 1) research and theory in the psychology of learning, cognition, andmotivation; and 2) factors that impact learning; and application of learning strategies. Theoreticalmodels of strategic learning, cognition, and motivation serve as the conceptual basis for theintroduction of college-level student academic strategies. Students use assessment instruments (e.g.,learning inventories) to help them identify their own strengths and weaknesses as strategic learners.Students are ultimately expected to integrate and apply the learning skills discussed across their ownacademic programs and become effective and efficient learners. Students developing these skillsshould be able to continually draw from the theoretical models they have learned.PrerequisitesYou must be placed in GUST 0341 or higher to be eligible to take a student success course. Studentsbelow this reading level will be deferred from the Student Success course requirement until theirreading level has improved.Course GoalAssist you in acquiring skills needed to have a successful college experience.

EDUC 1300The Type Focus Worksheet helps you analyze how your interests, values, personality, and skills willrelate to your chosen career path.An Online Career Search requires you to find professional organizations, publications, and volunteeropportunities related to your career.You will be asked to conduct an Informational Interview with someone who is already working in yourchosen career.Practice Job Interviews will be conducted in class by pairing up with another student and bothasking/answering commonly used interview questions.You will turn in a Career Portfolio that includes a paper at the end of the semester. Much of the workwill be completed during the semester, so keep up.Assignments have been developed that will enhance your learning. You will be required tosuccessfully complete these assignments.
