Endowments & ScholarshipsThe Endowed Scholarships at <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>Adventist</strong> <strong>University</strong> provide a vital resource for students. Some endowments are created to fund programs or to maintaincampus buildings and grounds, but most are for student scholarships.Many of our donors have established endowments to honor a family member or friend or to establish a personal legacy. Endowments can be funded with animmediate gift, through a future gift from an estate plan, or as a pledge given over a three-year period.The following endowments and scholarships were added during the 2007-2008 school year.President’s Circle<strong>Southern</strong> <strong>Adventist</strong> <strong>University</strong> acknowledges members of the President’s Circle who exemplify devoted alumni and friends committing annual leadership gifts of$2,400 or more.Members of this influential group understand the joy of giving and have reaped the rewards of participating in the growth and progress of the university. PresidentBietz seeks the counsel of these visionaries, and they in turn value the networking opportunities with other benefactors in a variety of social functions includingspecial campus events, President’s Circle luncheons, tours, and more.It is with great appreciation that we recognize the President’s Circle.Health and Healing EndowmentThis endowment is designed to providethe Hulsey Wellness Center and FloridaHospital Hall of <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>Adventist</strong><strong>University</strong> funds for healthy lifestyleprograms, special events, guest speakers, andspecial equipment. This endowment willbe used to provide a cutting-edge learningenvironment for students while creatingopportunities for <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>Adventist</strong><strong>University</strong> to reach out to the local, national,and world community, inspiring people toseek a life of wholeness.General–This endowment will be used iffunds given are less than <strong>Southern</strong>’s minimumguideline for establishing endowments or ifthe donor does not want to establish a namedendowment.Named–This endowment can be named ifit is established at the minimum guidelinefor establishing endowments at <strong>Southern</strong><strong>Adventist</strong> <strong>University</strong>.The Robert J. and Carolyn M. Liers Health andHealing Endowment Fund *Varner Jay Johns, Sr. andCharlene Morrison Johns FamilyEndowed Scholarship FundAn endowment intended to perpetuatethe truth about God and the miracle of Hiscreation. The biology department selectsstudents that a) have an academic interest in,and b) are committed to the science of originsin the context of the Genesis account of theorigin of life on Planet Earth.Philip and Sherilyn SamaanEndowed Theology ScholarshipFund *An endowment offered to any Schoolof Religion major. The recipient is chosen bythe dean of the School of Religion and musthave a GPA of at least 3.0.Frank and Ruth Potts EndowedScholarship FundAn endowment offered to any student.The president will make a determination ofthe recipient of the scholarship.Jamie Arnall Scholarship FundThe gifts received for this scholarshipare given each year to a student who displayspromise in the field of broadcasting andcommunications. The awarded student mustbe an undergraduate with a GPA of at least3.0. The dean of the School of Journalism andCommunication will select the recipient fromstudents with a broadcast/communicationsmajor or minor.Jack and Marion BlancoEndowment Fund *An endowment established to continuethe life work of Jack and Marion Blanco.Scholarships will be presented yearly tofive different areas: The Chaplain’s Officefor student missions matching; evangelismthrough the School of Religion; scholarshipsfor theology, religion, and archaeologymajors; tuition assistance for elementary-agechildren of School of Religion majors; andKids in Discipleship, a program establishedby the Collegedale Church of Seventh-day<strong>Adventist</strong>s for reaching families for Jesus.Brannon Capital ImprovementEndowment Fund *This endowment is to be used to helpkeep <strong>Southern</strong> in good repair.Brannon Family EndowedScholarship Fund *An endowment offered to any student at<strong>Southern</strong> <strong>Adventist</strong> <strong>University</strong>. The recipientof this scholarship must have at least a2.75 GPA.
