14Missouri Women’s CouncilThe Missouri Women’s Council wasestablished in 1985 by the State’s 83rdGeneral Assembly to identify and addressissues affecting the economic andemployment status of women in Missouri.The first name of the council was theMissouri Council on Women’s EconomicDevelopment and Training (MCWEDT).The name was changed to the MissouriWomen’s Council in 1994.It is the intent of the Missouri Women’sCouncil to work closely with otheragencies and community‐basedorganizations to build awareness, educate,promote opportunities for, and enhancethe lives and well being of Missouriwomen business owners and women inthe workforce.The Missouri Women’s Council offersinformation and resources on starting yourOwn Business, Women in Business, Findinga Great Job, Upgrading Your Skills, andObtaining State Contracts.The Council is an agency within theDepartment of Economic Development.The bipartisan Council is comprised of 15members: 11 appointed by the Governor,2 Missouri State Senators, and 2 MissouriState Representatives with the chairappointed by the governor.
