However, despite majornational and international organizations focusing on this concept of integrated health, there are few, ifany, operational projects that truly demonstrate a model of One Health. Bovine TB is thought to beendemic in Tanzanian villages causing increased morbidity and mortality in humans, cattle and wildlife. The disease is an ideal target for a One Health project due to its presumed high prevalence, impact onhuman health and family income, interests and expertise of our working group, and likelihood ofidentifying funding and achieving programmatic success. This pilot project could have far reachingimpact on the Universities approach to research and development as well as put future projects in goodstanding due to the current focus of funders on this concept. The goals and objectives for the partnership are to:- meet in St Paul, MN and discuss collaborative projects addressing the following issues:1. prevalence of bovine TB in livestock, wildlife and humans,2. role of nutrition, bovine TB, HIV, malaria and particulate matter (household-level airpollution) in the respiratory disease complex.3. role of wildlife in incidence of bovine TB in cattle and humans,

24. best treatment for humans5. an economically viable control program for livestock.Justification of partnership and the synergy offered by the proposed collaborationBovine TB is a disease complex that requires an interdisciplinary approach (Figure 1). Our proposedpartnership has all the individual pieces of knowledge, insight and experience necessary to respond. Inaddition, we have relationships with:- USAID RESPOND,- Savannas Forever and Whole Village Project,- SNV (Dutch aid agency) who is promoting and installing an intervention that decreases respirableparticulate matter,- a TB laboratory in Arusha,- professional training program,- two hospitals with outreach programs in ArushaFigure 1. The group is alreadyworking on a grant application to NIH to build diagnostic capacity for bovine tuberculosis.Strategy to achieve the objectives, including the activities, timeline and deliverables. Our initial intent is to meet with our collaborating partners and explore activities, funding opportunitiesand a timeline. What success will look like:At least one funded, interdisciplinary project with the ultimate goal of improving health and livelihood ofTanzanian villagers. An evaluation methodology for measuring outcomes/impact in the context of “success”- funding successfully identified,- joint proposals submitted,- internships, training or exchanges established,- progress in understanding and perhaps reducing complexity of bovine TB, as indicated byrefereed publications.
