The leafy branchesoff the main stem are 4-8 inches long.The vine is usually visible as a large, twistedmat covering vegetation along ditches,canals, and natural areas. Leaflets die inwinter but stalks of leaves usually remain intact,providing a “ladder” for climbing stalksof new growth from underground rhizomes.A true fern, native to Asia, which climbs existingvegetation up to 90 feet high. Its reproductivespores, like those of other ferns,can be transported long distances by wind,people, and vehicles. This vine is foundthroughout Brevard County, and is sometimesfound with Old World <strong>Climbing</strong> <strong>Fern</strong>.FOLIAR METHOD: Apply herbicide witha backpack or similar hand-operated pumpsprayer equipped with a flat spray tip oradjustable cone nozzle. Apply herbicide tothe leaves and stems of target plants using aconsistent back and forth motion. Herbicideshould thoroughly cover foliage, but notto the point of run-off. All recommendedherbicides require complete foliar coverageto be effective.
