City of LompocMedia Relations100 Civic Center PlazaLompoc, CA 93438www.cityoflompoc.comNEWS RELEASEFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEContact: Kate Griffith805 875-8232Lompoc, CA Home of New Raytheon Vision Systems FacilityLOMPOC, CA -June 6, 2003- The City of Lompoc welcomes Raytheon as a newemployer and partner in the community. Raytheon has purchased a 55,600-square-foot building in Lompoc to facilitate the expansion of Raytheon VisionSystems business (RVS), headquartered in Goleta, CA.The state-of-the-art building, which was previously owned by W.L. Gore &Associates, contains a 9,000-square-foot clean room. The facility will beprepared for operation and occupied over an eighteen-month period by RVS todevelop and manufacture infrared sensors and focal plane arrays for a widevariety of government, commercial and scientific applications.Approximately 40 employees will be working at the facility by 2003 year-end andplans call for an additional 80 to 100 employees to occupy the facility by the endof 2004. Personnel transferred from the RVS facility in Goleta will hold themajority of the positions.Raytheon sets a precedent for relocation that will decrease commuter traffic andsafety issues in the southern corridor of Santa Barbara County, while at the sametime increase the balance of housing and jobs countywide.A champion of Santa Barbara County’s Transportation Demand ManagementProgram, RVS will be able to discontinue monthly rebates of $45 to manyemployees who have been commuting from Lompoc to Goleta on the Clean AirExpress. Showers and bike racks at the Lompoc facility will allow RVS tocontinue the TDM program with less costly rewards for the use of alternativemodes of transportation, such as biking and walking.Working with the City’s business friendly staff, Raytheon will be able to makeenhancements to the facility in a timely and efficient manner that would beonerous in a community that imposes tight yearly limits on commercial growth.Other business incentives that attracted Raytheon include Lompoc’s affordable

and reliable City-owned utilities, which are the lowest on California’s CentralCoast.Indirect benefits, such as access to affordable housing and diminished commutetime that will enhance the quality of life for employees, were also of significancewhen RVS considered all the expansion options.Raytheon has two other operations in Goleta, employing a total of 1950 people inall three operations. Raytheon Company, (NYSE:RTN), with 2002 sales of morethan $16 billion, is an industry leader in defense, government and commercialelectronics, space, and information technology, technical services, and businessand special mission aircraft. Headquartered in Lexington, MA, Raytheonemploys more than 77,000 worldwide.Information on the City’s business incentives can be obtained by contactingEconomic Development Coordinator Kate Griffith at 805 875-8232 or emailingher at k_griffith@ci.lompoc.ca.us.
