The Academic English (ELICOS) program and associated outputscan be used to meet the English entry requirement <strong>for</strong> the majority ofCurtin College Certificate IV in University Foundation Studies and TertiaryAccess Program courses. The Diploma has the same course content andstructure as Year 1 of the respective Curtin undergraduate degree. TheDiplomas in Commerce, In<strong>for</strong>mation Technology, Built Environment,Arts & Creative Industries and Engineering are taught in Curtin Collegeclassrooms, whilst the Diplomas in Health Sciences, Humanities andPhysical Sciences are taught by Curtin in shared University classes.Progression to Year 2 at Curtin requires achievement of qualifying grades(minimum 50%) in Diploma. All international students who successfullycomplete the Curtin College Diploma and who have met the minimumacademic entry requirements are guaranteed entry and advancedstanding into relevant undergraduate courses at Curtin. <strong>Students</strong> whowish to enrol in a double degree can apply to Curtin at the end of theDiploma, as Curtin College can only package Diplomas to single degrees.Trimester System and Flexible Study OptionsFor Certificate IV in University Foundation Studies, TAP and the Diplomastaught in Curtin College classrooms, the academic year is divided into 13-week trimesters. Trimester One runs from February until June, TrimesterTwo from July until September and Trimester Three from October untilJanuary. The flexibility of the trimester system allows students to fasttrackmost Curtin College programs in order to reach their desired degreeat Curtin faster.Dedicated students may be able to enter university more quickly.<strong>Students</strong> who prefer a more gradual transition into university study canextend their studies over three trimesters. With the trimester calendaryear, students can still complete the course within a 12-month period.For some Diplomas including Humanities, Health Sciences and PhysicalSciences, the academic year at the College follows the Curtin calendar.Semester One of the University runs from March to June and SemesterTwo from the end of July to November.
