Each intern participating in the ride-along program is required to sign the <strong>Student</strong> <strong>Internship</strong>Program Release From Liability, SHP-748. Interns under the age of twenty-one will be requiredto have their parent/guardian sign the release from liability form as well. This form will benotarized upon signature of the intern or parent/guardian.Briefings (Law Enforcement Interns Only): To help give the intern a better understanding of the<strong>Patrol</strong>, briefings are scheduled with various components in the troops. Components will providean explanation of their functions and how they relate to the agency as a whole. The intern shouldbe given an opportunity to ask any questions about the component. The following is a list of thebriefings the intern may be expected to attend:1. Traffic enforcement2. M.C.I.U.3. Communications4. K-9 training (observation only)5. Shooting range training (observation only)6. Driver Examination7. Commercial Vehicle Enforcement8. Motor Vehicle InspectionSupervisors will schedule the following briefings as the opportunities become available:1. Warrants2. Drug Enforcement3. Court observations4. Fingerprints5. SERT training6. Evidence maintenanceUpon completion of the internship, all required paperwork will be forwarded to the HumanResources Division. All hours required by the intern’s educational institution must becompleted. Interns may not extend their internship beyond the end of the semester, unlessapproval is granted by the Human Resources Division.At the end of the internship, interns will receive a Certificate of Completion, SHP-780, for theirinternship with the Missouri <strong>State</strong> <strong>Highway</strong> <strong>Patrol</strong>. If the intern is eventually hired as a full-timeemployee, their internship records will become part of the employee’s personnel file. Allinternship files will be maintained in the Human Resources Division for five years.6
