The Corian ® skin for architectureDuPont Corian ® combines aesthetics with high performance,which makes it an ideal choice for panelised façade systems.Coloured all the way through, DuPont Corian ® made-to-measurepanels offer easy maintenance, good weather and UV resistance,and high-quality detailing and finishing possibilities. The panelscan also be repaired in situ.Made-to-measurefabricationStandard Corian ® panels (0.93 x 3.66 m) areassembled, seamed and sanded.The maximum finished size is 5.5 x 2.2 m(W x H), and the panel thickness is 12.3 mm.The joints are reinforced at the rear by 6 mmthick strips with a width of 5 cm.The panels are supplied directly by ourCorian ® Quality Network fabricator.Joints and thermalexpansionOverlapped or open joints are located on allpanel edges. The joint width depends onthe thermal expansion coefficient of Corian ®and the panel dimensions. Theyclip onto the secondary framework every45 cm. The lifting system has to be designedcarefully, as the fixing system allowsa tolerance of only 1 cm for attaching eachpanel to the framework.The panels can be lifted by using a metalframe with suction cups, or by usinga movable platform.One example of the high-quality finish thatcan be achieved with Corian ® is the fact thatthe window frames can also be fabricatedin the same material, ensuring a perfectmatch between the window frames and thecladding.Convenientmain te nance andgood weatheringcharaC teristicsCorian ® panels resist attack by a broad rangeof paints, coatings and chemicals. Different techniques canbe used for surface finishing, partial surfacefinishing or full cutting for different shapes,patterns or inlays.Surface machining of DuPont Corian ®Exterior Cladding is typically done with routingtools to create desired shapes, and withsanding or polishing tools for different finishes(semi-gloss, mat or rough-textured). Routerscan achieve a fine level of detail for surfacecutting, and CNC routers achieve intricatepatterns and textures. Since DuPont Corian ®Exterior Cladding is relatively easy to cut andfinish, without the need for specialiseddiamond abrasives and saws, fabrication canbe done quickly and with a high level of qualityeven on-site.Thermoforming of DuPont Corian ® ExteriorCladding is typically done with mediumtemperatureovens (165°C) and pressuremoulds. Geometric patterns or naturalpatterns can be moulded into the surface toachieve a number of different architecturalfinishes.TranslucencyDuPont Corian ® Exterior Cladding allowssome diffuse light transmission, dependingupon colour and aggregate. Solid lightcolours such as white and beige are themost translucent, and dark colours withlarge aggregates are the least translucent.DuPont Corian ® Exterior Cladding can befabricated to achieve different levels of lighttransmission by reducing the thickness ofthe material.
