The announcement was made byJennifer Schmidt, principal at <strong>Sullivan</strong> High<strong>School</strong>, <strong>Sullivan</strong>, MO 63080.Missouri Scholars 100 is a programsponsored by the Missouri Association ofSecondary <strong>School</strong> Principals. <strong>School</strong>s acrossMissouri were invited to nominate candidatesfor this statewide recognition. The selection isbased primarily on a formula using thestudent’s grade point average and ACT orSAT score. Each student nominated had tofirst meet criteria of an “Academic Decathlon,”Page 6which included ten “events” designed toassure the academic strength of thestudent. To meet the decathlonrequirements, the student must have aminimum GPA of 3.750, a minimum ACTscore of 29 or a minimum SAT score of1,900, be ranked in the upper ten percentof the class, and have taken upper levelcourses in mathematics, science, English,and foreign language. The student mustalso have excellent attendance, be anexemplary school citizen, and be involvedin the school activity program.Jim L.
