This is one of a series of audit, <strong>in</strong>spection, and special reports prepared as part of ouroversight responsibility to promote economy, effectiveness, and efficiency with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> department.This report assesses <strong>the</strong> actions DHS has taken to identify and organize <strong>the</strong> nation’s critical<strong>in</strong>frastructure and key resources <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Asset</strong> <strong>Database</strong>. It is based on <strong>in</strong>terviews wi<strong>the</strong>mployees and officials of relevant agencies and <strong>in</strong>stitutions, direct observations, and a review ofapplicable documents.The recommendations have been developed to <strong>the</strong> best knowledge available to <strong>the</strong> OIG, and havebeen discussed <strong>in</strong> draft with those responsible for implementation. It is our hope that this report willresult <strong>in</strong> more effective, efficient, and economical operations.
