To tackle problems <strong>of</strong> this sectorvarious committees were formed by the government , The Talwar committee 1977 whichsubmitted report with 176 recommendations, major <strong>of</strong> which were accepted and implemented,another committee more popularly known as Goiporia Committee in 1990, carried out extensivestudies and interviews and came up with 97 recommendations, which also was very significantand attentative were accepted by government except infrastructural related services, TheNarsimham Committee 1991 which covered the whole gamut <strong>of</strong> the Indian banking sector, hasalso emphasized the need to improve service to the customers. Simultaneously, besides thepressure <strong>of</strong> having to work efficiently, the banks are being subjected to pressures in such mattersas prudential norms and transparency. Other important developments with respect to customercare include the Customer Protection Act, which, inter alia, covers the bank services and theestablishment <strong>of</strong> Banking Ombudsman Scheme.Uppal (2006), with stratified sampling <strong>of</strong> 506 bank customers, explained the impact <strong>of</strong>computerization on the satisfaction <strong>of</strong> customers <strong>of</strong> all bank groups and concluded that customerservice are quite better in <strong>full</strong>y computerized banks and further in e-banks in partial and nonecomputerized banks.F.T.
