ARTS IN LAKEElementary MusicIn February, the Uniontown kindergartners celebrated the 100th day of school with a “Singing Through the Seasons” program.They performed their handbells along with singing songs from every season. Your feedbackvia these surveys will help us to continuously improve our services to you and your child.K-4 MUSIC79.1% of respondents selected email as their preferred method of communication.20.9% of respondents selected mass callouts as their preferred method of communication.97.1% of respondents value their child’s music education.79.1% of respondents encourage their child to participate in music activities outside of school.83.1% of respondents stated their child provides positive feedback about their music class.K-<strong>12</strong> VISUAL ARTS96.1% of respondents stated that Visual Arts classes are important to their child’s education.64.7% of respondents reported that their child has been to an Art Museum.92.2% of respondents felt that an education in the Visual Arts enhances students’ learning inother subject areas such as math, science, social studies, etc.80.4% of respondents reported that their child draws, paints, or participates in an art activity intheir free time.68.6% of respondents stated they were not familiar with, or aware of, the Advanced Placementand Dual Credit enrollment opportunities in the High School Art Department.62.2% of respondents felt there was enough Visual Art course offerings for their child at <strong>Lake</strong>High School.37.3% felt that there was not enough course offerings available.Art students in the second grade have been studying artand science through the creation of an entomological bugbox. Students learned that entomology is the scientificstudy of insects that used both science, for classificationof a species, and art techniques, for classifying andorganizing insects for display. The students examined avariety of creepy crawly critters while learning to identifyvarious parts of a bug’s anatomy such as the thorax,abdomen, antennas, wings, mouthparts, and legs.Finally, students acted as scientific illustrators, exploringan art career while creating a realistic, symmetrical insectand constructing a three-dimensional bug box for display!5-<strong>12</strong> MUSIC (CHOIR/BAND/ORCHESTRA)91.4% of respondents encourage their child to practice at home.77.3% of respondents value student participation in Solo and Ensemble Adjudicated Events.85.4% of respondents value student participation in Large Group Adjudicated Events.71.4% of respondents selected email as their preferred method of communication.27.6% of respondents selected mass callouts as their preferred of communication.92.4% of respondents felt that they were communicated with just the right amount.volume 15, issue 4 BLUE STREAK NEWS 15
