Dan H. Cockrell Dissertation
Award Fund is Endowed
Early in 2008, the Dan H. Cockrell EdD
Dissertation of the Year Award fund was endowed.
Achieving endowed status means that the fund
balance had reached the minimal amount required
for investment and generation of income for the
purposes for which the fund was intended. It also
means that in future years the EdD program can draw
from the proceeds of this fund (not the principal) for
a cash award that will be given to the Dissertation of
the Year Award winner. We again want to thank Dr.
Cockrell for establishing the fund as well as the over
120 donors who have made this endowment possible.
Contributions can still be made to the fund and as the
fund grows, so will the amount of the cash award. You
can help by directing your gifts to the University of
Missouri Dan H. Cockrell Dissertation Award. Your gift

EdD Dissertation Research
Funding Available
Funds are available to assist EdD students doing
dissertation research on the EdD Program. The purpose
of this funding is to encourage high quality research on
this outstanding program so others and we can benefit
from learning more about how the program functions
and the outcomes to which it contributes. Any student
enrolled in the Statewide Cooperative EdD Program
from any cohort, from any site, may apply for these
funds. Funds may be used for, but are not limited to the
following: creation of survey instruments, mailing of a
survey instrument and/or follow-up letter, transcription
fees, travel to interview sites, software, etc.
Amount Available: Awards of up to $1,000 will be
made to students who provide a copy of a dissertation
proposal and appropriately signed form showing
that the research has been approved by the student’s
committee. Students must write a one-page description
of how the funds are to be used.
Due Date: Proposals for funding will be accepted at
any time. Proposals will be reviewed by a three-member
committee composed of the EdD Program Director,
EdD Program Associate Director, and one other faculty
member from a Partner Institution. Awards will be made
on a first-come, first-served basis during each fiscal year
(July 1-June 30) until funds are exhausted.
Expectations: Recipients will be expected to write a
summary of major findings and implications of their
research for inclusion in the EdD Program Electronic
Newsletter.
