Clinical Assistant Professor Position<br />

Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis<br />

The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (ELPA) in the MU College of Education seeks a Clinical<br />

Assistant Professor of PreK-12 Educational Leadership. The successful candidate will contribute to the following<br />

responsibilities and activities: 1) development of initiatives and partnerships between the ELPA’s Hook Center for<br />

Educational Leadership and District Renewal and school districts aimed at improving overall district performance, 2)<br />

successful competition for external funding to support Center research and outreach, and 3) delivery and oversight of<br />

off-campus preK-12 degree programs, including the MU-St Louis City Schools’ New Leader Development Project.<br />

The successful candidate must be highly organized, committed to bringing education stakeholders together to address<br />

challenges facing public schools and districts, and be willing and able to provide leadership in a principal development<br />

program in partnership with St. Louis Public Schools. Specific teaching assignments for the position will be matched<br />

with departmental needs and candidate expertise. Some travel between Columbia and Missouri’s urban and suburban<br />

school districts will be required.<br />

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in educational leadership or related field and leadership experience at the<br />

PreK-12 building and/or district level. Preferred qualifications include leadership experience at the district level;<br />

demonstrated success leading school and/or district improvement activities in urban settings; an ability to secure external<br />

funding for educational improvement projects and experience managing such projects; capacity and willingness to<br />

teach in leadership development programs; and the ability to develop partnerships among stakeholders to further the<br />

Department’s and Center’s mission.<br />

The focus of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis is on creating effective leadership practices<br />

in a collaborative and supportive environment that honors multiple perspectives and the recognition of individual and<br />

group efforts. ELPA currently offers degrees at the Master’s, EdS, <strong>EdD</strong>, and PhD levels. Department program areas<br />

include: 1) Higher and Continuing Education; 2) PreK-12 Educational Leadership; 3) Educational Policy Studies; and 4)<br />

an interdisciplinary Ed.D. program in educational leadership. In addition, to the Hook Center, the department is home to<br />

the Middle Level Leadership Center and the Center for Community College Research.<br />

MU is the oldest state university west of the Mississippi River and the largest of the four institutions in the University<br />

of Missouri System. It is one of the most comprehensive and diverse universities in the United States and proudly<br />

embraces the land grant mission. MU has a student body of over 30,000 at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.<br />

The NCATE Accredited College of Education is one of 18 schools/colleges on campus, has a student population of 1,200<br />

undergraduate and 1,550 graduate students, and a tenure-track faculty approximately 81 members. As a member of the<br />

American Association of Universities, a state land grant institution, and a Doctoral/Research University-Extensive as<br />

designed by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, MU is a premier provider of graduate education.<br />

The Educational Administration program with Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis is ranked 15th nationally.<br />

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.<br />
