Parent InvolvementParents are an important part of a child's life and love forlearning. We would like to become partners in thislearning process. We offer you, as a parent, many waysto become involved in our community such as:•parent volunteer for the day•participation in class activities•parent resource room•special family events•fund raising•parent conferences•snack•input through program evaluations.We truly welcome you into your child's classroom. AtParent Orientation, we will provide you with information onhow you may volunteer and become involved.Parent ConferencesParents will be able to meet with their child's teachers inJanuary and May. These conferences are designed to bea relaxed and informal meeting in order to discuss yourchild and his/her needs. You will be made aware ofconference dates and times a month prior.Keeping InformedHow do you keep informed of your child's progress andclass happenings? First, we hope to make extensive useof email, so please check your mail often. Second, checkthe class bulletin board and easel each day. There youwill find current information relevant to your child'sactivities at school. Third, remember to pick up your mailin your box. Fourth, read the monthly class newsletter aswell as the quarterly center newsletter. If you have anyquestions, please do not hesitate to speak with yourteacher. Daily contact at drop off and pick up is the bestway to establish open lines of communication and rapportwith your child's teacher.Parent SurveyWe will be asking you to fill out a short parent survey inFebruary so that you can evaluate the job we are doing inmeeting your families’ needs. You will be able to makecomments but if you have a problem or concern, please donot wait until then to say something. Speak up right away.Health, Safety and Emergency ProceduresArrival and DepartureYou must escort your child in and out of the building daily.Parking directly in front of the building is limited. However,you must not block the entrances to the building atanytime or parallel park across the street.AttendanceIf your child will not be attending class, please call theschool at 860-647-3168 by 8:45 a.m. You may leave animmediate message by pressing * on your touch-tone dialas soon as the voice mail answers. Please state yourchild's name, class, and the reason why s/he will not beattending that day. We keep track of the way illness suchas vomiting or diarrhea runs its course through classes.Communicable DiseasesFor the health and safety of all our participants, you arerequired to notify your teacher of all communicablediseases your child may contract i.e. chicken pox, fifthdisease, conjunctivitis, pertussis, strep throat, etc.Specific information will be kept confidential; however, wemust notify all participants of the situation. Depending onthe illness, children will be allowed back to the program 24hours after treatment begins or with a physician'sapproval.MedicationsIf your child requires emergency medication, such as anepi-pen, arrangements will be made for medicationadministration. Please speak to the Nurse or Director. Forother medications, such as antibiotics, consult yourphysician for a modification in the time of administration ifit coincides with class time.Illness ExclusionYour child will not be allowed into class if thesesymptoms appear. During class, you will be asked topick up your child in the event of: a temperature of100 degrees or higher, diarrhea, vomiting, seriouscough, head lice, chicken pox, rashes, fairly constantthick and green discharge, and conjunctivitis withpus.An ill child will be isolated from the other children with theCenter Director in his office and will be comforted until youor an authorized alternate arrives. Depending on theillness, children will be allowed back to the program 24hours after treatment begins or with a physician'sapproval. If diarrhea, vomiting or fever have occurredwithin the last 24 hours, your child must remain home inorder to prevent the spread of infection.In the event of a serious injury, 911 will be called, firstaid will be administered, and parents will be notifiedimmediately. The Center Director will accompany the childto the hospital.In the event of a minor injury, the staff will administerfirst aid and notify you of the situation when you arrive.EvacuationIn the event of an emergency, such as fire, the staff wouldrelocate the children immediately to safety, either to thelarge parking area or in case of inclement weather, shelterin the building across the street. The Center Directorwould call 911, then the Main Office for assistance innotifying the parents of the situation.
