22 Art ScholarshipsHolders of Art Scholarships will be expected to play an active role in theacademic and extra-curricular artistic life of the College. They must take Art atgcse and are expected to take it at a level. If scholarship holders wish not topursue Art at a level they will need to discuss and agree with the Headmasterand Head of Art how else they might fulfil their obligations as art scholars inthe Sixth Form.The progress and involvement of art award holders will be reviewed each yearby the Head of Art.23The visual is sorely undervalued in modern scholarship. Pupils’ work is displayed throughout the College and the site is oftenused to show the work of guest artists and as a venue for Somerset Arts Weekexhibitions. Standards are high and results at both gcse and a level have beenconsistently strong over the years. Visiting artists enrich the experience for thepupils, as do regular trips to galleries in the uk and overseas expeditions.16+Candidates will be assessed in the November preceding entry. They will becalled for individual interview with the Head of Art and the Headmaster andwill be asked to bring a portfolio of work to discuss. Candidates will also be setan exercise in their chosen medium to complete on the day of the interview.Candidates who are successful in achieving Art Scholarships at 16+ must takeArt as an a level subject.>13+Candidates for the Art Scholarship will be asked to bring a portfolio of workto King’s College on their testing day. They will be asked to complete apractical test and will be interviewed by the Head of Art and the Headmaster,who will encourage the candidates to talk about their portfolios and theirinterests and involvements in art.
