for the <strong>Currier</strong><br />
Final Report
The $13.4 million <strong>Campaign</strong> for the <strong>Currier</strong> came to an exciting,<br />
successful conclusion with the reopening <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Museum</strong> to the public<br />
on March 30, 2008, following construction <strong>of</strong> a transformational,<br />
33,000-square-foot expansion designed by Ann Beha Architects <strong>of</strong><br />
Boston.<br />
More than 45,000 visitors experienced the renewed <strong>Currier</strong> during its<br />
first four months <strong>of</strong> operation in the new facility. As they arrived, visitors<br />
traversed the new Kimon and Anne Zachos Court punctuated by the<br />
soaring sculpture Origins by Mark di Suvero and then entered the<br />
building through the Charlotte and Ruth Anderson Lobby. Many visitors<br />
marveled at the 1929 façade <strong>of</strong> the museum which is now a focal point<br />
<strong>of</strong> the Henry Melville Fuller Winter Garden. From there, they were drawn<br />
past the Sol Lewitt wall drawings into the dynamic Putnam Gallery, one<br />
<strong>of</strong> three new galleries that enable the museum to exhibit more <strong>of</strong> its<br />
distinguished collection. The expansion also includes a new education<br />
suite with an auditorium, two classrooms, and seminar room as well as an<br />
enhanced museum shop, art storage and library, food service capabilities,<br />
and staff <strong>of</strong>fices.<br />
The <strong>Campaign</strong> for the <strong>Currier</strong> drew support from 454 generous<br />
contributors – individuals, businesses, and foundations – from across the<br />
region and beyond. Almost one quarter <strong>of</strong> the donors made their first gift<br />
to the <strong>Currier</strong> during this campaign. It is a great pleasure to thank every<br />
donor on behalf <strong>of</strong> the Board and staff <strong>of</strong> the museum.<br />
More than ninety volunteers worked diligently to ensure the success <strong>of</strong><br />
the campaign and the expansion. It was inspiring to us to see so many<br />
give <strong>of</strong> their time and energy. We also wish to acknowledge the dedicated<br />
leadership <strong>of</strong> the campaign’s honorary co-chairs, John Swope and Kimon<br />
Zachos.<br />
Throughout the pages <strong>of</strong> this final report are the names <strong>of</strong> those who<br />
supported the campaign and worked on behalf <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Currier</strong>. We salute<br />
you and thank you for helping to make the <strong>Currier</strong> an art museum for all<br />
