Connecting the Dots
Moses speaks the words above to the people of god as they’re preparing
to move ahead after their 40-year journey. Part of their preparation is
to listen to the story of that journey. for the israelites, it’s an exercise in
“connecting the dots,” and the picture that emerges is of a faithful and
loving god.
The late Steve Jobs once said, “You can’t connect the dots looking forward;
you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that
the dots will somehow connect in your future.” it’s a fact that the future, no
matter how hard we think about it or how much we plan for it, is hazy and
uncertain at best. We can build hope and trust for an unknown future by
connecting the dots of our past, and seeing the picture that emerges.
our 40-year faith story at Christian living Communities is one of
prayerful beginnings and an unwavering commitment to care that is
both Christ-like and of the highest quality. it’s a story of devoted staff,
committed volunteers, and visionary leaders, each of whom have played
an important role in keeping Christian love, respect and compassion at the
center of daily life.
as we connect the dots, we end up with the same picture as Moses and the
people of god saw all those years ago: a picture of a faithful god who has
blessed us in all the work of our hands, who has watched over our journey,
and who for “these forty years” has been with us all the way. May it
continue to be so, by the grace of god.
