BME LEAdERSHip & ENgAgEMENT pROJECTWomen4Change Programme: BreakingOur Seminar is part of a series of events organised within our Women4Changeprogramme and aims to:• provide perspectives & presentations on the under-representation of women fromBlack Minority Ethnic & Refugee & Migrant (BME) communities within elected &appointed positions, decision-making structures & in local regional & nationalpublic life including political & civic roles, governance and leadership positions.• examine the barriers that still exist to BME women’s engagement & participationwithin diverse BME communities, community leadership & communityorganisations as well as within mainstream public independent & politicalinstitutions, civic roles and leadership positionsAn Action-orientated and outcome based seminarOur seminar will contribute towards building an action orientated programme, informedand led by women, to empower women & agencies working with or supporting BMEwomen, to coordinate support to women & develop effective interventions & strategiesto promote women into leadership roles within public and civic institutions.Our Seminar will focus on:• developing a critical understanding of the dynamics of race & gender inequalitiesfacing BME women• advancing the establishment of an effective Support & Training Network toempower BME women• Identifying women from diverse BME communities, who wish to participate inor are interested in engaging in any type of informal or formal governance orleadership role, supporting individual women or women’s groups, influencingor promoting existing gender equality strategies or services etc with a view toconnecting them or matching them with appropriate opportunities in community ormainstream organisations, political or civic positions etc• access to bespoke training & capacity building programme• connecting individuals & organisational representatives, to explore potential forcollaborative & joint work at a neighborhood, borough wide or pan London levelwith our Alliance of Community Partners operating in different service sectors.• feeding into the agenda of our national conferenceSeminar targeted at: individuals & community reps from diverse BME communities &professionals from Local Authorities, PCT, Voluntary Sector & other agencies involved inor interested in breaking barriers & delivering an Agenda4ChangeCostsFrEE but places must be booked in advance.
