MERTON MENCAP<strong>Independent</strong> <strong>Travel</strong> <strong>Trainer</strong>Job DescriptionTitle:Responsible to:Hours:Salary:Place of Work:<strong>Independent</strong> <strong>Travel</strong> <strong>Trainer</strong>The Lead <strong>Independent</strong> <strong>Travel</strong> <strong>Trainer</strong>, in the first instance, and theOperations ManagerAs agreed£13 per hour£7 per hour for training, supervisions and meetingsVarious - all based in <strong>Merton</strong>Job PurposeTo promote and deliver programmes of independent travel training to young people (students) witha learning disability, in order to <strong>support</strong> them to become independent travellers for identifiedjourneys.Responsibilities/activities/dutiesTo work within <strong>Merton</strong> Mencap’s standards, policies and procedures and code of conduct,in particular policies and procedures which relate to safeguarding children and vulnerableadults, health and safety practice and equal opportunitiesTo work with parent carers to promote the travel training programme and to gain their<strong>support</strong>To provide practical assistance and training to students with a learning disability, enablingthem to develop road safety and travel skills on a specific route to and from our projectsand activities or other agreed destination.To regularly monitor and evaluate students’ progress and keep accurate records of thisprogressTo conduct risk assessments and implement control measures to maintain good safetyprocedures for young people while out in the communityTo liaise with parents, carers and line manager to update them on the progress of studentsTo attend relevant meeting with other agencies, as requiredTo work flexibly, as agreed with the Operations Manager, to ensure programme objectivesare delivered effectively<strong>Independent</strong> <strong>Travel</strong> <strong>Trainer</strong> – <strong>JD</strong> <strong>October</strong> 2012 AW
