Only Nostradamus could have predicted Henderson State’s stunningupset of No. 16 Delta State. The Statesmen came to Arkadelphia fresh off a road upset of I-AA Stephen F. Austin, only to have HSUturn the tables on them, thrilling its home crowd with a 16-13, overtime shocker. DSU quarterback Scott Eyster, who wasknocked out of the game in the fourth quarter, made headlines individually, becoming the GSC’s all-time leader in total offense(11,069).Russellville High School’s Cyclone Stadium is becoming a home-away-from home for No. 24 Arkansas Tech, whichforced overtime by scoring 11 unanswered points in the fourth quarter versus West Georgia, then iced the game with RobertTown’s 21-yard TD catch and a UWG fumble in the overtime period.West Alabama head coach Bobby Wallace came to Livingston, Alabama with many impressive credentials (threestraight NCAA Titles while guiding UNA)—but the question was whether he could work the same magic at another GSC school. The early returns are very positive, as Wallace has the Tigers at 3-0 for the first time since 1992, thanks to a 24-17 home win overSouthern Arkansas. The win also snapped a nine-game GSC league losing streak dating back to last season.Arkansas-Monticello accomplished a rare feat of its own Saturday, holding its opponent “touchdown less” for the firsttime in six seasons in a 27-6 home win over in-state rival Ouachita Baptist.2006 GSC STANDINGS(through games played 09/16/06)Conference OverallTeam W L Pct.
