directional charging, and makes it easier to store renewable energy. Renault
agreed with this viewpoint, adding that their vehicles are being prepared for
such a scenario.
Mr. Dupuy confirmed that G2V system compatibility is taken into consideration
in all activities. It is important that this issue also be dealt with by
ISO/IEC - jointly, where necessary. Here there is still room for improvement.
Mr. Marquardt was also of this opinion, referring to the consistent observance
of the ISO/IEC Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the
electromobility sector, saying that compatibility is also being taken into
consideration at European level, e.g. by the CEN/CENELEC Focus Group, and
at national level, e.g. by the German National Platform for Electromobility.
In the panellists‘ concluding statements and Mr. Marquardt‘s résumé
of the entire conference it was stressed that discussions on electromobility
have become considerably more practical and less theoretical. Nevertheless,
the conclusions made during this conference, particularly those on international
cooperation, must be speedily implemented in concrete solutions.
Standardization must also remain open to the integration of new technologies.
There are a number of national roadmaps which should be looked at
closely not only in terms of potentials for harmonization, but also in terms of
redundancies. The identification and integration of all relevant stakeholders
and organization is an important task which should be supported by all standards
organizations. This includes measures for promoting standards work.

Résumé of the <strong>International</strong> <strong>Conference</strong>
on Electromobility Standardization
The core messages of the contributions by the speakers, panel members, and
conference participants are as follows:
► To ensure the success of electromobility from the perspective of both
industry and society as a whole, it is essential that a common approach and
understanding of the system be established.
► The establishment of suitable, streamlined structures that enhance the
efficiency of international collaboration, particularly between ISO and IEC,
must be vigorously pursued and implemented. This will require an effort at
all levels - international, regional and national.
► The relevant ISO/IEC Memorandum of Understanding must be consistently
applied in all collaborations between the ISO and IEC bodies.
► Close cooperation in standardization at international level is also necessary
with other relevant organizations such as SAE and UN/ECE.
► Responsibilities at the working level must be clearly defined and structured
so that concrete standardization topics regarding electromobility can
be incorporated into the established working procedures.
► The integration of converging and new technologies must be taken into
account throughout the standards development process. Redundancies in
or the unnecessary overlapping of standards projects must be avoided in the
interests of efficiency and taking available resources into consideration.
► <strong>International</strong> standards must be implemented at national level. National
rules should be reviewed for their suitability for international harmonization.
► Regulation can be facilitated through references to standards. This process
should be furthered.
► Several different national strategies and programmes exist side-byside.
These must be systematically compared and gradually consolidated to
enhance the common understanding of electromobility development. The
result could be an international standardization roadmap that integrates the
activities (incl. the smart grid) of all relevant organizations.
