THE PERSE PELICANNURSERY AND PRE-PREPARATORY SCHOOL31 st August, 2012Dear Parents and Children,I hope that you have all had the chance for a good break at some stage over the summerand that everyone is now looking forward to the opportunities and challenges of a newschool year. A special welcome to all for whom this is their first term at The Perse Pelican;we shall do everything we can to help your settling‐in period be as short and easy aspossible and know that you will soon feel very much ‘at home’.The staff, builders and landscapers have been busy at The Perse Pelican during the schoolholidays and we are all now ready and looking forward to seeing the children back in schoolon Wednesday, 5 th September.First Day ArrangementsLarks will operate as normal from 8am. If you need to book Larks or Owls and have notalready completed the previously sent Perse Post booking form, please emaillarks&owls@perse.co.uk with your requests as soon as possible. Parents using this servicemay park on the drive until 8.30am and use the front door to enter school.Otherwise, the school will be open from 8.40am for children to go straight to theirclassrooms.Nursery children have their own individual settling‐in arrangements for the first week.Those parents who would like to accompany their children in Years 1 and 2 in to school,should wait by the gate at the side of Nursery until it is opened at 8.40am.Children in Years 1 and 2 who are coming into school from 8.40am unaccompanied mayenter through the front door.Reception children and parents should wait outside their classrooms in the garden.Kiss and Ride will also be in operation from the first morning. Please do not park on thedrive until 8.30am to allow parents dropping children in Larks to leave.The minibus to The Perse Prep will also operate from the first day. It will leave atapproximately 3.20pm and arrive at The Perse Prep at approximately 3.40pm. Once at ThePrep, children may be collected from the corner of the dining hall, next to New School.There is limited availability on each day of the week for the journey to The Prep; pleasecontact Mrs Butler should you wish to book the minibus.

OwlsOwls will be operating from Wednesday, 5 th September from 3.15pm until 5.30pm. Pleasepress the front door bell labelled Larks and Owls when collecting your child. Apart from inexceptional circumstances, children should always be collected by 5.30pm.After School ClubsAfter school clubs begin in the week commencing Monday, 10 th September. Due to thepopularity of football club we have employed an extra coach and consequently there are afew spaces left in this club that runs on a Tuesday for years 1 and 2 from 3.15 – 4.15pm;please contact Mrs Butler if you would like your child to attend.Parents collecting children from clubs should come round to the rear of the school throughthe Nursery gate.UniformChildren may return in winter or summer uniform. However, if girls are wearing summerdresses they should wear summer socks with them. If tights are preferred, please wearwinter uniform.Michaelmas Term CalendarA copy of this is attached. A hard copy will be sent home with your child on the first day ofterm. We have tried to make our calendar more user friendly and would be interested inyour feedback.This year, we are introducing Families’ Afternoons. These are to give our children theopportunity to show their grandparents or other relatives or family friends their school. Inthe Michaelmas Term it will be Year 2s turn and we have chosen the afternoon of theirassembly with the aim of combining events on a single day for your convenience. Due tospace limitations we have to limit the numbers for each child to 2 and would ask thatparents do not attend on this occasion! Further details will follow later in the term.Key Lent Term events for parents are published on the back page of the calendar.Improvements to The PelicanDuring the summer both school cloakrooms have been refitted and redecorated.The garden outside the Reception classrooms has been levelled and landscaped and mostexcitingly, the pond fencing has been removed and replaced with a sturdy grill. This willenable the children to observe pond‐life changes on a regular basis. The area around thepond will gradually be developed into a quiet, wildlife garden. We are most grateful to the

APP for their generous donation which has enabled us to purchase the pond grill and createthe surrounding area.The playground facilities have been enhanced by the addition of new markings, a slide andlarge sandpit, whilst the boat has become a pirate ship!
