7 th <strong>September</strong> <strong>2012</strong><strong>Dear</strong> <strong>Parents</strong><strong>You</strong> <strong>will</strong>, without doubt, understand ourexcitement at the completion of the newAstro Turf on Porson Road. <strong>The</strong> past sixyears have seen a number of significantchanges at <strong>The</strong> Prep, and this addition toour sporting facilities is a landmark in ourdevelopment as a school offering aneducation of real breadth. What better waycould <strong>The</strong> <strong>Perse</strong> mark the success of theLondon Olympics and the many initiativesthat are planned to develop sport,nationally? As you <strong>will</strong> see from theCalendar, an event to mark the officialopening of the Astro Turf takes place onSaturday 22 nd <strong>September</strong>.Term has begun well, and I am delighted to announce that the academic year <strong>2012</strong> – 13 has seen the<strong>School</strong> open with a record number of pupils and with a greater percentage of girls than ever before. Ournew pupils have settled in well and this letter brings the warmest welcome to you all for the start of theschool year.On Sunday 16 th <strong>September</strong> the annual PPP Family BBQ takes place; please make sure that this date is inyour diary.Individual Music TuitionIndividual instrumental and singing lessons begin next week. Mr Thompson(violin) <strong>will</strong> be in on Monday as usual and Mr Eisner (guitar), Mr Hudson(drums), Mrs Bonner (piano), Mrs Godfrey (‘cello) and Mr Sutcliffe (voice)<strong>will</strong> all be in on Tuesday. <strong>The</strong>ir timetables <strong>will</strong> be sent out via <strong>Perse</strong> Postlater today. All other timetables for Wednesday, Thursday or Friday <strong>will</strong> bepublished early next week. Please let Mrs Richardson know of anyproblems.Library monitorsOur new Library monitors have been chosen! Tatiana, Todor, Calum, Jess,Alice, Jonathan, Axel, Katie and Daniel can help you in the library. <strong>You</strong> <strong>will</strong>know they are monitors because they are wearing great new badges! <strong>The</strong>y<strong>will</strong> scan the books you wish to borrow on the computer system and they put your returns back on theshelves. <strong>The</strong> monitors can also help you to search ‘Olly’ (our library catalogue) for the book that you want.


Well doneCongratulations to Matteo Codispoti for completing an amazing trek across the Dolomites and toChristopher Graham for his success in cricket. Well done to Daniel Roberts, Aoife Carey and Jessica Painterwho were awarded with their Reading Challenge gold medals.<strong>You</strong>rs sincerelyHead


Sports UpdateAstro Turf Opening EventWe are delighted to return this term to see the completion of our wonderful new Astro Turf at PorsonRoad. It is a fantastic facility and I know the pupils and staff are very excited about using this superbresource. We are organising an opening event on Saturday 22 nd <strong>September</strong> <strong>2012</strong> at 9.30am to celebrateand officially open the new pitch. We <strong>will</strong> be hosting a number of matches involving boys and girls.Details of this event <strong>will</strong> follow but please keep the date in your diaries.Games ReminderAll pupils should have a full PE kit for PE lessons and a full Games kit for Games lessons. In some sportsthere are additional items required for safety as listed below:• FOOTBALL: Football/rugby boots and shin pads are compulsory for all year groups.• HOCKEY: All year groups <strong>will</strong> play hockey and not Quiksticks. Mouth guards and shin pads arecompulsory for all year groups. Astro Turf shoes are recommended but not compulsory.ClubsAll clubs <strong>will</strong> start on Monday 10 th <strong>September</strong> <strong>2012</strong>. Please ensure that you have the correct kit for eachclub and make sure you know about collection/transport arrangements afterwards.Games ChangingTo allow the maximum amount of games time for the coaching of sport, we would like all pupils toremain changed in their games kit at the end of school on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons.We <strong>will</strong> ensure all uniform is packed in bags before the start of each games session. This <strong>will</strong> be for Years4, 5 and 6.
