Tips for the New ProResourcesChoosing & Using Mounts<strong>Lowel</strong> offers a wide rangeof components that handlea variety of mountingsituations. To help youselect and use the mostappropriate ones, we offerthe following thoughts.To select stands:n Use Uni & Uni TO Stand for V, i &Pro-lights and small accessories.n Use Omni, & Uni TO Stands for the aboveand for Tota, Omni, Rifa-44, Lightflectorand small to medium flags.n Use KS Jr. & Uni Sr. Stands for the above,plus DP, Rifa eX 55 & 66, when compactpacking is important.n Use KS Stand for the above, plus Rifa eX88, Basic Boom, large flags, and reflectivepanels.n Use KSA Stand for the above when aircushioning or black “camouflage”is desirable.n Use Grand Stand for heavy equipment,booms, Variflector, 3rd leg leveling capability(especially outdoors), great heightsand air cushioning.To extend stands:n Use Pole or Half Pole on KS, KSA orGrand Stand.n Use Lobo & Lobo Arm, or Missing Link& Double Male Stud or Lobo Arm forsmall lights.Note: For safety, never over-extend stands,test for stability, use weights. Pole & HalfPole have been extended in overall length toallow safer use at original length, leavingmore overlap in riser sections.To stabilize stands:n On grass or sand, push Anchors throughholes in legs of KS, KSA or Grand Stand.n Add <strong>Lowel</strong> Weight to struts of any<strong>Lowel</strong> stand.n Use cables, cases, tape or whateverworks safely.To wheel stands:n Attach casters to KS, KSA and GrandStands for heavy equipment, booms, etc.(casters can be locked in position).To mount lights belowstandtops:n Use Tota-clamp, Grip and Interlink orDouble Male Stud, Lobo with Lobo Armor Lobo with Double Male Stud fromInterlink.To boom lights:n Use a KS, KSA or Grand Stand, Grip andone or two <strong>Lowel</strong> Weights as needed.n Use Lobo & Lobo Arm for small lights.To clamp lights on small spans(stands, poles, etc.):n Use Tota-clamp or Grip with Interlinkor Double Male Stud,.n Use Missing Link with Double Male Studor Spring-loaded Stud Clamps.To clamp lights across largespans (columns, beams, etc.up to 8 feet):n Use Space-clamp (with extension barsas needed).To mount lights on walls orwindows:n Attach Tota-mount with Gaffer-tape forTota, Omni, V, i or Pro lights.n Mount L-light with Mounting-platedirectly with Gaffer-tape.Note: For safety, never tape lights toceilings. Do not use Gaffer-tape onwallpaper or painted surfaces. Rub tapethoroughly onto clean surface. Never usewith heavy lights.To mount lights on door tops:n Hang Tota-mount on top of door (open orclosed) for Tota, Omni, V, i, or Pro lights.To mount lights on droppedceiling grids:n Attach light-weight lights or accessorieswith Scissor-mount to T-bar of ceilinggrids. Extend and articulate with MissingLink & Double Male Stud.Note: For safety, never use near flammablematerials or automatic sprinklers; test gridfor stability.To put small lights on floorsor tables:n Use Home-plate with Scissor-mount.To mount lights on top ofstudio sets:n Use Screw-in Stud or Space-clamp forsmall and medium-sized lights.To mount lights on videocameras:n Use Low-link, L-link, or Stud-link for Proand i/id lights.n Use Cam-link with any of the above forPro and i/id lights.To mount large whitereflector boards:n Attach foam core, etc. to Maxa-mountwith tape.n Position Maxa-mount with Lobo or Gripon KS Stands.n Use weight on Maxa-mount or standif needed.To float object in “limbo”:n Attach prop or product to Maxa-mountwith tape.n Slip Maxa-mount through hole inseamless paper or background.n Use Lobo to support Maxa-mount onstand behind paper.n Use counter-weight on Lobo Armif needed.To support seamless paperand background:n Use two KS Stands, two Grips orInterlinks, two Full Poles.To convert stands or clamps to“tripods”:n Add Tota-tilter to top of stand or clampfor emergency mounting of small stillcameras and accessories.To increase safety:n Use an adequate stand or clamp (basedupon weight, extension and conditions).n Use weights on stands when appropriate.n While mounting lights overhead, clearpeople from below.n Test clamp and mount installationscare-fully. Screw on stand-fitting must beseated in undercut of stud.n Always use safety cables on lightsattached to overhead pipes, grids, etc.n Use ground Anchors or Weights onoutdoor reflectors. Lay them down whennot in use.82
