It reminds of us of the wondrous diversity of living, breathingcreatures that share our planet, and encourages us to act on our obligations asstewards of the earth.The <strong>Zoo</strong> received two of our largest gifts in <strong>Zoo</strong> history. A one million dollar giftto the endowment was donated <strong>from</strong> the Myron and Jacqueline <strong>Blank</strong> <strong>Foundation</strong>Trust. “The <strong>Blank</strong> family has made a tremendous and lasting impact on the <strong>Zoo</strong>which bears their name. The entire State of Iowa benefits <strong>from</strong> their generosity,”says Terry Rich, CEO of the <strong>Zoo</strong>.Bill and SusanKnappThe <strong>Blank</strong> gift included a matching dollar for dollar challenge, which was metin February 2006. The William C. Knapp family donated land valued at $2.1million. The Knapps were honored at the October <strong>Zoo</strong>Boolation fundraiser, whenit was announced that a new bald eagle exhibit would be named in their honor.Bob Burnett, a member of the <strong>Zoo</strong> Board, stated, “Bill Knapp is one of the keyleaders who can make things happen in a very positive way. His contribution willhelp the <strong>Zoo</strong> entertain and educate children and families of all socio-economicbackgrounds for generations to come.”The <strong>Zoo</strong> was started by a $150,000 gift<strong>from</strong> A.H. <strong>Blank</strong> to the City of Des Moinesto build a children’s <strong>Zoo</strong>.What Will Your Legacy Be?As you reflect upon the pleasure and delight that you have taken in the <strong>Blank</strong><strong>Park</strong> <strong>Zoo</strong> over the years, please consider your role in securing the <strong>Zoo</strong>’s vitality forgenerations to come.
