WALKING IN VICTORIAA snapshotSince the early 1970s there has been a marked decline in walkingto work and school and a reduction in walking generally.Walk only trips to work declined from 8 per cent in 1976 to lessthan 4 per cent in 2001 6 . Since then the figure has stabilised witha slight increase to around 4.5 per cent in 2006. Over the sameperiod, public transport trips to work decreased slightly while cartrips increased.Walk only trips are trips in which the entiretrip from origin to destination is walked.
