She set me at easeright away with her smile. It’salmost like she be<strong>com</strong>es a friendthat is helping you learn somethingnew. She leads the class,and the class just naturally followsin behind her. She givespersonal examples to some thingsthat make you go ‘oh, okay ... Iget it now.’ Another thing I lovedabout taking her classes is that Ialways knew what to expect. Shelays it out for you. From the notesto the grading rubric, I knew whatI needed to do, and how to do it.And if there was any doubt at allin my mind, she was just an e-mailaway. She always answered my e-mails, and no matter how many Isent her, never acted like I was abother. I have taken both in-classand online courses with Dr. Wallace.She expects you to give ityour all, but in the end, it’s worthit.”“I have gained so much fromher classes and just from talkingwith her,” Fout continued. “Shehas such a polite, yet friendly personaand is so soft-spoken. Herwords are full of knowledge, justwaiting to be tapped into. Iwork to make sure that my classesare relevant and that the academicconcepts can be applied to theirreal-life goals. I recognize fromhearing much grumbling over theyears that my classes are oftenperceived as being difficult, butmy hope is that students recognizethat they are capable of morethan they originally thought andthat the classes have given themopportunities to learn in many differentways.”Wallace has been instrumentalin fostering a learning environmenton campus through suchprojects as having students in aWomen and Gender Studies classdevelop quotes as a class capstoneproject that reflects an areaof research.
