The second place prize of $100 was shared by Erin Bennett, of St. Joseph's High School, who wrote on theSisters of Mercy, and Cara Tracey Holley, of St. Lewis Academy, Labrador, who told the story of theAmerican radar base operating in her community in the 1950's.Dwane Poole of St. Lewis Academy received honourable mention for his essay on the origins of FoxHarbour residents.Cash prizes are provided by the Johnson Family Foundation which also pays the administrative costs of thecontest. Book prizes for all the winners are provided by Harry Cuff Publications, Jesperson Publishing, andRobinson-Blackmore Printing and Publishing. The essay contest is open to all high school students in theprovince.
