With six top three finishes inindividual events, CSUB also placed third in the team standings.Hansen found immediate success with his small squad at CSUB in 2008-09, claiming three dual victories to start theseason and ending the year with numerous record breaking performances at the Conference USA Championships. Fiveindividual marks planted members of the 2009 squad in the CSUB all-time top five record book, while two relay teamsalso earned that feat. Most impressive was Henry Holmberg’s first place time in the 1,650 free at the C-USA Championships.Holmberg set a pool and CSUB record with his time of 15:13.60, a mark which was also a national qualifying timewere the Roadrunners postseason eligible.A veteran of coaching at the NCAA Division I level, Hansen has produced Olympians, USA National Team members,Olympic Trials qualifiers, USA Swimming Association national qualifiers and NCAA Championship qualifiers. California State University, Bakersfield, PresidentDr. Horace MitchellDr. Horace Mitchell became the fourth President of CSU Bakersfield in July 2004 with 36 years of experience in higher education.Under Dr. Mitchell’s leadership, the University has entered a period of rapid development, with a vision to extendthe excellence and diversity of the faculty and academic programs, enhance the quality of the student experience andstrengthen community engagement. With Dr. Mitchell at the helm, the CSUB Roadrunner Athletics program began the move to NCAA Division I status in 2006.The move, which dovetailed naturally with his vision of excellence for the campus, was a perfect marriage of opportunityand ability, given Dr. Mitchell’s extensive experience overseeing NCAA Division I athletics programs. As vice chancellor forstudent affairs at UC Irvine, he supervised what was then a relatively young Division I program that had joined the PCAA,later to become the Big West Conference. He left Irvine to become the vice chancellor for business and administrative servicesat UC Berkeley from 1995–2004, where the long–time Pac–10 conference member reported to him.Upon leaving UC Berkeley, he was awarded the Berkeley Citation, one of the campus’ highest honors. Also, the title ViceChancellor-Business Affairs, Emeritus was bestowed on him by the President of the University of California system.Dr. Mitchell, also a professor of psychology at CSU Bakersfield, holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, a master of arts ineducation, and a Ph.D. in counseling psychology, all from Washington University (Mo.). He began his professional careerat his alma mater, serving as assistant dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, assistant professor of Education and BlackStudies, and Chair of the Black Studies Program.CSUB Director of Athletics • Jeff KonyaAfter a four–month national search that generated numerous qualified candidates, Jeff Konya was named CSUB’s director ofintercollegiate athletics, effective Jan. 8, 2011. Konya replaced longtime athletic director, Rudy Carvajal, who retired afternearly 40 years of service to the university.Konya came to CSUB from Northeastern State University (NSU) in Oklahoma where he served as athletics director since late2008. He has NCAA Division I experience as a senior associate athletics director at Southern Methodist University where hisduties included the sport administration of the men’s and women’s basketball programs. In addition, he has held manysenior athletics positions at various universities including the University of Memphis, the University of Texas at San Antonio, and Bucknell University, among others. He has also served as an adjunct professor, helped facilitate conference and NCAAtournaments, is a nationally–recognized speaker on student–athlete life skills issues, and has served on several NCAA committees. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Politics from Princeton University and a Law Degree with academic distinction fromthe University of Iowa.CSUB Faculty Athletics Rep. • Dr. Jacquelyn KegleyOne of the most successful and respected tenured professors in the California State University system, Dr. Jacquelyn Kegleyadded CSUB Faculty Athletics Representative to her resume in 2006.
