Filmmaker BradLichtenstein’s As Goes Janesvillecatapults viewers to the front linesof America’s debate over the futureof its middle class – a debate thathas become a pitched battle overunions in the normally tranquil state of Wisconsin. First, GeneralMotors shuts down Janesville’s century-old plant, causing masslayoffs and residents exiled in search of work. Then newly electedgovernor Scott Walker ignites a firestorm by introducing a bill toend collective bargaining, unleashing a fury of protest and sparkinga recall election. Spend three years in the lives of laid-off workerstrying to reinvent themselves; business leaders aligned with thegovernor to promote a pro-business agenda that they believewill woo new companies to town; and a state senator caught inthe middle, trying to bring peace to his warring state and protectworkers’ rights. As goes Janesville, so goes America, a polarizednation losing its grasp on the American Dream.Community Cinema screenings are held at the Little Theatre (240 EastAvenue). All screenings, which are followed by panel discussions, arefree, open to the public, and reservations are not required.

A VHS trade event, where guests can trade old school VHS tapes, will follow immediately afterthe screening.Prepare to shake, squeal, and squirm as you watch six short stories intersect with a main theme of found footage. Foundfootage, a genre of film that presents footage as discovered or left by dead or missing protagonists, has been popularizedin horror film culture by films such as The Blair Witch Project (1999), Paranormal Activity (2007), and Cloverfield (2008).In V/H/S, directors Adam Wingard, David Bruckner, Ti West, Glenn McQuaid, Joe Swanberg, and directing quarter RadioSilence craft a terrifying narrative where a group of misfits break into an abandoned house to retrieve a videotape, and findmore found footage than they bargained for.The Little’s Project 5 is an “all-encompassing” term for events in Theatre 5. We will strive to bring independent cinemato the theatre that would otherwise not be seen in the Rochester area. Films with limited or no distribution and seriesdevoted to the independent spirit will be showcased with unique monthly/ weekly series and special events. We will dorotating showings of these films and also “one-night-only” events. Project 5 will also embody the spirit of collaborationas we reach out to local colleges, art galleries, film festivals, and non-profits to foster programming that engages theRochester community at new levels.
