<strong>Peer</strong> <strong>Tutoring</strong> <strong>Program</strong> <strong>Policies</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Procedures</strong>For every program, a certain amount of paperwork must be completed forrecordkeeping, program justification, timekeeping, evaluations, etc. Thepaperwork for <strong>Peer</strong> <strong>Tutoring</strong> is pared down to a minimum so the focus of thesession can be on helping the student. Therefore, the paperwork <strong>and</strong> proceduresexplained below must be completed <strong>and</strong> followed for each session. Please contactthe <strong>Peer</strong> Tutor Coordinator with any questions.<strong>AccuTrack</strong> <strong>Log</strong>-in/Out <strong>In</strong>/Out <strong>Procedures</strong>:‣ The <strong>Peer</strong> <strong>Tutoring</strong> log in/out station is located to the left of the front desk inthe College Skills Center.‣ Students <strong>and</strong> tutors log in using their NIC Student ID number.‣ Tutors will input their Student ID number at the log-in screen, choose sign inas tutor <strong>and</strong> then exit the pop-up screen for tutor sign-ins.‣ Tutors must also log-out after completing their last tutoring session.‣ Students will input their Student ID number at the log-in screen <strong>and</strong> thenwill see a yellow box in the upper left h<strong>and</strong> corner of the screen containinginformation on their activity in the <strong>Peer</strong> <strong>Tutoring</strong> <strong>Program</strong>.‣ Students do not need to log-out. <strong>AccuTrack</strong> will log out students after 50minutes.‣ If students do not know their NIC Student ID number, please check theapplication in their <strong>Tutoring</strong> file.‣ Please report any problems to the front desk staff.‣ If a tutor or student forgets to log-in or out, complete a log in slip located inthe white basket on top of the tutor file cabinet.Paperwork Required for <strong>Peer</strong> <strong>Tutoring</strong>:A file will be provided for each student the tutor will be helping. The file will beplaced in the tutor’s hanging file in the top drawers of the tutor file cabinet. Thefile for each student will contain the application completed by the student <strong>and</strong> thefollowing paperwork:


‣ Student/Tutor ContractThis contract needs to be read <strong>and</strong> signed by both the tutor <strong>and</strong> studentduring the first tutoring session. Set the boundaries for future sessions atthis meeting by reviewing the Student/Tutor Contract with the student.Please read <strong>and</strong> become familiar with the Student/Tutor Contract provided atthe end of this section.‣ Tutorial SummaryThe tutorial summary will be used each time you meet with a student <strong>and</strong> torecord if the student did not show or called in to cancel. More importantly,the Tutorial Summary is a snapshot of your meeting with the student as areminder in future sessions. Please record attendance diligently on thisform.‣ <strong>In</strong>structor Feedback FormThis form requests information from the student’s instructor regarding theprogress of the student. This form should be sent out after the first test hasbeen given so the instructor has an idea of any problem areas. It is veryimportant to send these out so you know how the student is doing <strong>and</strong> to letthe instructor know that the student is receiving tutoring. Complete theform, using the correct spelling of the instructor’s name <strong>and</strong> turn it in to thefront desk. When the form is received back from the instructor, the frontdesk staff will place it in the student’s file in the tutor’s file.Miscellaneous <strong>In</strong>formation:‣ Timesheets need to be updated after each tutoring session. Timesheets mustbe completed <strong>and</strong> turned in according to the schedule provided on the greenPayroll <strong>Procedures</strong> form in the blue tutor file.‣ Place completed, signed timesheets in the Completed Timesheets file in thetop drawer of the tutor file cabinet.‣ Printing <strong>and</strong> copying for tutoring sessions can be done at no charge. Pleaseask the front desk staff for help.‣ Cancel tutoring only if ill or a family emergency. Call the front desk at 769-3206 <strong>and</strong> your students will be notified.


Student/Tutor Contract<strong>Tutoring</strong> is a strategy for strengthening a learner’s study skills <strong>and</strong> promotingindependent learning. <strong>Tutoring</strong> builds confidence, teaches new strategies forgrappling with content, <strong>and</strong> helps refine a student’s thinking process.<strong>Tutoring</strong> is not teaching. Teaching is focused on the subject matter while tutoringis focused on the learner. <strong>Tutoring</strong> is not a substitute for homework or forattending class.The Tutor agrees to <strong>and</strong> is responsible for the following:1. I will be prepared for tutoring sessions <strong>and</strong> will arrive on time.2. I will notify the College Skills Center as far in advance as possible if I mustcancel an appointment.3. I will give my total attention to the students during the tutoring session.4. I will seek assistance during the tutoring session whenever I need it.5. I may contact the student’s instructor for input if needed.6. My ultimate goal in tutoring is to foster independent learning.___________________________Tutor_________________________DateThe Student agrees to <strong>and</strong> is responsible for the following:1. I will attend class regularly.2. I will read the material before the tutoring session <strong>and</strong> attempt theassignments.3. I will bring all the necessary materials (completed or attempted assignments,syllabus, textbook, lecture notes, h<strong>and</strong>outs, etc.) to the tutoring session.4. I underst<strong>and</strong> that 2 unexcused absences will result in suspension of services.5. I will arrive on time for tutoring sessions.6. I will notify the College Skills Center as far in advance as possible if I mustcancel an appointment.7. I will not expect the tutor to do my assignments or help with take hometests/quizzes.8. I underst<strong>and</strong> that ultimately it is my responsibility to be a successful student<strong>and</strong> tutoring can help me reach that goal.
