Story by Commandant Conor Bates, Irish DefenceForcesPhotos by Lieutenant Colonel Udo Simon, GermanArmyThe Rapid Reaction Brigade (RRB) Mentoring andAdvisory Team (MAT) is a branch of the MilitaryCivil Advisory Division (MCAD) under the commandof Brigadier General Enrico Spagnoli, an experiencedGeneral Officer of the Italian Army. The branch’soperational tasks are to:Supervise, mentor and advise with a main effort on theRRB and its subordinate units, through to FullOperational Control (FOC), in line with MCADmentoring concept and development plans.Coordinate mentoring efforts with flanking MCADmentoring teams.Contribute to the overall assessment of RRBoperational capabilities.Report on progress to Land Force Command (LFC)MAT with information to Force Advisory Office(FAO).Manage the branch administration, including securityand personnel issues.The RRB MAT team is led by Lieutenant ColonelKonstantinos Alexis, Greek Army, and consists ofthree Germans (2 Officers, 1 Other Rank), two Turkish(2 Other Ranks), two Italians (1 Officer, 1 OtherRank), one Irish (1 Officer) and three civilianinterpreters. The RRB MAT is required to travel on adaily basis in order to engage with the KosovoSecurity Force (KSF) RRB at all levels. The threelocations to be visited on a daily basis are: Istok (RRBHQ and Rapid Reaction Battalion number 2),Mitrovica (Rapid Reaction Battalion number 3) andGilane (Rapid Reaction Battalion number 1),RRB MAT members advise, mentor, and assess theRRB in order to support their movement to FOC.Therefore RRB MAT covers all aspects of RRBactivity.KFOR Chronicle, <strong>January</strong> 201125
