Chairman of UNITEN Board of Directors Tan Sri Leo Moggie, MIMOS Head ofKnowledge Technology Cluster Dr Dickson Lukose and Prof Klaus Tochtermann of Leibniz Information Centrefor Economics and Christian-Albrechts-University Kiel, Germany.The premier event in Malaysia inthe areas of Artificial Intelligence andSemantic Technology, KTW this yearwas held on 18-22 July. It was jointlyorganised by MIMOS, Universiti TenagaNasional (UNITEN)’s College of IT andNota Asia.The event included seven subevents;namely the Third Malaysian JointConference in Artificial Intelligence (MJCAI),Third Semantic Technology and KnowledgeEngineering Conference (STAKE), ArtificialIntelligence Tutorials (AIT), ArtificialIntelligence Workshops (AIW), ArtificialIntelligence Special Sessions (AISS),Artificial Intelligence Demo (AID) and PhDSymposium (PhDSymp). Keynote speakersincluded some of the most authoritativespeakers in their respective fields likeProf Eric Tsui of Hong Kong PolytechnicUniversity, Austria’s University of GrazProfessor of Psychology Dr Dietrich Albert,Dr Johannes Keizer of United Nation’sFood and Agriculture Organisation and DrSheng-Chuan Wu of Franz Inc, USA, toname a few.Most, if not all the topics, suchas “challenges for orchestrating anddelivering cloud-based knowledgeservices”, “hyper-scalable knowledgeserver” and “e-learning based onmetadata, ontology and competencebasedknowledge space theory”, werealso very relevant to the work currentlybeing done at MIMOS.The paper presentation session atMJCAI and STAKE generated variousinteresting discussions, while the AIdemo sessions featured a refreshingarray of new ideas and discoveries. ThePhD Symposium saw a lively sharing,discussion and exploration of researchobjectives and challenges between PhDcandidates and the panel of establishedinternational researchers. mf20
